O.K. I CANNOT wait for this. Today I saw a short clip of Nigella's new show coming to the Food Network! I've NEVER ever seen Nigella but I can't wait. Some of you raved all about it but..........my cable network hasn't carried it.

This is supposed to happen in OCT. MY BIRTHDAY month of course. ;-D
JenT
I can't wait for this either. She used to have a show on Style, and may still but I don't get that channel. I loved watching her and I love her cookbooks. She's sort of the woman I would love to be. She comes across so confident and carefree.
VelvetSky
LOVE her. She doesn't get on my nerves like Rachael Ray.
Anna
Love her too! She's so glamorous and warm, and have no problem with if you cheat with prefab stuff sometimes. Grand woman, excellent cookbooks. My favorite is called something like "summerfood" and has the greatet recepie for persian rice- and chicken pilaff with almonds and pistachios.
lillie
I've nerver seen her on TV either, only know her from the internet but i have a crush on her, really, her favourite perfume is Coco... fits so well...!

My favourite receipe is the lavender chicken.

Wow! That sounds interesting! Did you watch her on Style? She looks so beautiful and sensual.
lillie
Yes! I love her "trueness" and her bright smile. She's so elegant but you get the feeling that you could have a good laugh with her while cooking and having a glass of wine.
And: she doesn't get hysteric about eating and rounded forms!
PerfumeMe
I think she's more or less retired from TV and is concentrating on her line of housewares, which are quite stunning. She doesn't need the money, being very rich in her own right and married to a very wealthy man, Charles (?) Saatchi. He's very private and I don't think he likes her being in the limelight, which spills over on him. I read the above in the British press.

If you can find Nigella's Watermelon Kalamata Olive salad, try it. It also has red onions and I think feta, but I don't remember exactly, as I haven't made it in a while. I sounds like an odd combo but is delicious.
VelvetSky
Anyone know when her new TV show starts? October I think?

That's what the Food TV Network says ..........but I haven't seen a date advertized. I'm "stoked" as my son would say.......

Nigella is a goddess!
Tommaso
I've seen her show and it was quite enjoyable but I don't hold her in the same regard as I would a chef. She seems to be something of a culinary dilettante and for her ilk, I don't think that she could carry Julia Child's spatula. And, then there's Jacques Pépin.
Armanis
I've never watched her show. Will have to check it out.

Neither could most of the people on the Food network but.........they're fine with me. I've gotten some GREAT recipes there. Julia was a bit too sophisticated for me and I don't think that she related to most people. I definitly have my faves on the network......some of them leave me utterly cold.
Armanis
Click to view attachmentReally, Glo? Now, Julia I loved. She was something of a mess, if you will. Six foot two inches, tall!

But, I loved to watch her. Grand entertainment. I remember once that her tarte tatin, didn't 'work.' It was too loose. God forbid! She tried and tried to rectify it, but nothing really helped. JC ended up dusting the tarte, with powdered sugar. 'You can always put a dollop of rum sweetened whipped cream, on top ...'
glorious1
Oh yes. She was quite entertaining. I just think that the Food Network and their personalities on there.....have simplified learning to cook everyday meals to company fare........
Maybe I was too young at the time but she didn't inspire me to cook everyday meals for a family.
I'm certainly NOT saying that she wasn't a cut above everybody else. She was certainly a gourmet!

I saw Emeril Lagasse's first show and I was certain that he would be canceled in short order. I just don't understand his popularity. So often, I have watched him prepare dishes that would simply be inedible (under or over cooked, burnt sauces, missing ingredients, etc..) only then to watch his studio guests lap it up is astonishing, to me. I thought that I might be the only one to recognize this until a NYT food writer said as much in an article a few years ago.
Armanis
Tommaso . . . I can't even bear to watch what Emeril Lagasse, does to food. Total turnoff, to me.
Fulltiltredhead
Nigella is a pleasure to watch, and her recipes all sound delicious, many of them just different enough to be interesting, but not enough to seem forbidding. To me, she's the nth degree of casual elegance, which I aspire to.

Jacques Pepin's mannerisms get to me. I know that's no evaluation of him as a chef, but for tv, I don't like him so much, you know?
Armanis
Anyone remember, Carmelita Pope? This goes back a few centuries . . . I just loved her.

I promise you that there is nothing that you could say about JP that would offend me. Is it the French thing? :-)

Oh, no!

It's the constant "you know." Drives me nuts.

You know, you're right about that

Woody "You Know" Allen must not be one of your favorites.
PerfumeMe
Jacques Pepin's Fast Food My Way is one of my most used cookbooks. I've made almost every single thing and they were all good.
