Full Version: Rock Star Supernova, Week Of 8/28
Perfume of Life > A Civilized Perfume Affair > Talk About The Arts

NOW things are going to get rough. I don't see Storm lasting another week, although she (and everyone else) was killer. Dilana killed it. Lukas killed it. Magni Killed It. Ryan.....eh, he didn't do it for me. Tomorrow will be very interesting.
Trinity
They were all good!

Why don't the guys love Storm as much as the audience? She's incredibly talented, gorgeous, very mature, and far too good for them! She'll do fine without Supernova, so it probably doesn't matter but I think she will be gone in the next week or so. It's inevitable. I just wish she would hang around longer so I could hear her sing... not win the darn thing, just sing.

Storm or Ryan leave tomorrow. Maybe both if it is double eviction. (I will really miss Ryan because he is so great to look at!)
VelvetSky
Maybe I'm being tough to please (probably!), but I was bored by the songs last night. Most all of them have already been sung on this show already. I know they were picked by the fans, but [[yawn]]. I love those Nirvana and Coldplay tunes but I don't want to hear these kids singing them again.

Everyone gave a good performance, but I'm pretty sure Storm is going home. I like her, but it's clear the Supernova guys don't see her fitting in with them.

Dilana had a great performance last night, and boy, did she need it after all the un-pleasantness last week. I found the beginning of the show very interesting: Dilana was in full self pity mode, saying how "weak and vulnerable" she felt. She brought all this on herself by her nasty comments, but then seems to want sympathy because she's hurting. This reminds me of an old joke, where the kid kills his parents, then wants sympathy from the judge because he's an orphan. Yes, she said she was sorry, but I think her real source of anguish was not how she hurt others, but how she hurt herself. Then she gets all kinds of points for rising above the mess. I've seen people adopt this kind of behavior, and it always infuriates me. But, we'll move on, like Dave said...

Everybody was good last night, but I agree Storm will go next. Did anybody notice how off key she was at the beginning last night? She got better as the song went on, but overall, I just don't see her lasting much longer in a group that is so good, and so male.

Dilana is a total psycho bitch, but what a set of pipes on her, wow... I guess it's what powers up many artists, be they musicians, singers, painters or whatever: when they can put their dysfunctional baggage into their art, it can have incredible results.
VelvetSky
I'm sorta liking Magni. He has a vulnerability in his performances that I like.

I like Dilana, but to be honest, she's wearing on me a little. I think she's a great performer, but I'm not mad about her singing. I prefer the Ann Wilson school of rock-chick singing, but those voices are rare.

Magni's been one of my faves for weeks now. I really like him a lot, and it's clear the guys like him as well. I think Supernova likes all the guys that are left. The girls--it's only a matter of time and ratings. Storm may stay for another week only because she's nice to look at--she has no chance with them. Yes, she's talented, but not a good fit. Furthermore, I don't think she's eally decided "who she is" yet as far as her performance persona is concerned. One week, pigtails and leather, and the next a dress? That's why she comes across so disingenuous to me.

Now, Dilana has clearly decided who she is and what she's about onstage. Offstage, well, that's another story. I still think the "big mouth of Dilana" thing was blown out of proportion by the producers for maximum dramatic effect.

Let's not forget, also, that the guys in Supernova are all old pros--they've all been at it for 15 years or more. They are all established, have families, have varying degrees of the maturity that comes with age (here, Tommy Lee is at the bottom of the learning curve, but what the hell) so they are looking for someone who will be solid all the time. Their garage band days are behind them, and they don't strike me as being interested in the whole early 20's late adolescence angst thing. Ergo, I think Magni may be a bigger contender than most. But then again, I've been wrong before......
rita
I don't like Dilana. She seems like trailer trash and I can't stand the dramatics. My favorite is still Ryan. His voice, his looks. But what do I know ? they seemed to like the ones I didn't and not the performances that I liked.
Trinity
I think Ryan is gone tonight. It looks like Supernova is really liking Toby, at the moment.
PerfumeMe
We/they need to consider who is a better fit for this band. Ryan, Magni and Toby need to go. Storm needs one good song to redeem herself because her fans let her down by choosing a song totally unsuited to her voice. I'm on the fence about her.

Dilana and Lukas are the top contenders in my opinion. Lukas is REALLY hungry for the job, much like JD Fortune was last year. Dilana will do very well with or without the band. She's a fascinating character. Tough and yet vulnerable at the same time. She's hinted at a terrible childhood, details of which will come out in the future, I'm sure. I can't tell if she's gay or straight, though.

And what's with the sticking out of tongues, devil horns hand signals and black nail polish for this bunch? Generational thing, I suspect.

I think they're trying to look cool. Ryan did none of this the first few weeks, and then all of a sudden he was wearing black nail polish and eye makeup. I do agree with Dilana on one point, though--I think there are people in the bunch who are, as the kids would say, "posers," and that Ryan is one. I think he is of the garden variety band-you'll-forget-tomorrow-nice-voice-though type.

Dilana doesn't need this band. She already has a ton of star-power on her own. She totally owned the stage last night.

As for the offstage theatrics, confessions, mood swings, nastiness followed by apologies, etcetera - it's a TV show and don't believe for one minute that there's any "reality" about that part of it. The producers have to make "good TV" and they're pulling out all the old tricks to do it.
altodiva
Ooooh! Ryan bought the farm. That means Storm will die next week!

I didn't like Ryan's performance last night or tonight. I must say I'm glad. Now he can return to being his real self.

Agreed about Dilana, Minette. She'll be famous no matter what.
PerfumeMe
Ryan was screaming, not singing. I can see him as a solo performer, with a softer style. I still think he should also consider acting, a la Rick Springfield. Can't you see him on General Hospital?

Dilana reminds me of Janis Joplin in a way -- right on the edge, tough but tender, very insecure. Performers just want to be loved. Watching Supernova watching her sing Psycho Killer, I was wondering if THEY are wondering how she would be to live with on a day to day basis on a grueling tour. Tommy Lee is enough of a handful as it is, so Dilana needs to calm down and be more level headed. I think she really feels the pressure now. She is a very exciting performer, you have to give her that.

They like Storm, but she needs to kick it up a notch or do something just a little bit different. I got a kick out of her picking up Dilana and carrying her. Also, did you notice how her pants kept falling down while she was singing? Plumber's butt.

Toby has gotten better, but I just don't see the X Factor. Lukas seems to be in the top spot at the moment.

I tried to vote last night but the website wouldn't load. Why don't they have a regular 800 number instead of having to use their advetiser's cell phone service, unless I missed something. I want to vote, dammit.
VelvetSky
I think Magni is in the top spot. I'm just getting the vibe from the band that all of them really like his singing, his performances, and him personally.

Lukas...he's very good, but here's why I think they won't pick Lukas: I don't think he fits in with their ROCK personae. To me, Lukas looks like he's more on the glam/punk side. I see him as more a solo artist.

Dilana and Storm. Nope, they both have the female factor. I think they'll both have no problem getting a recording contract, though.

Toby is sort of 50/50 with me right now. He's starting to have an air of desperation about him.

As far as Ryan goes, you could tell he was feeling bitter last night, but I truly don't think he sang that Who song very well. He over sang it. He put no emotion into the lyrics (listen to the original with Roger Daltry for reference...perfection). BUT I do think he has talent and yeah, I could see him as an actor.

Was anybody else shocked that Dilana was in the bottom three? I'm no fan of hers, but I thought her performance on Tuesday night was great. (Last night, not so much.)

I agree with the comment about Ryan screaming, not singing. Husband said the same thing, before he left the room in disgust. But there's a lot of "screaming, not singing" with this group.

Velvet Sky: You bring up a good point about Ann Wilson and Heart. She could rock with the best of them, yet always looked and sounded like a woman. In contrast, Storm has a beautiful face, but the voice and body language of a truckdriver. I've been watching her, and even when not performing, she's always making some hand motion in the air, sticking our her tongue, or something else equally vulgar. She's got some kind of deranged rock-star wannabe Tourette's syndrome, and I think she needs to go.
rita
I loved Ryan but I must admit that he was just awful singing that Who song. I think the three of them were not that great last night. It's getting down to who the band wants. I am sure each week we will be sad to see each singer leave, though I am surprised Storm didn't go before Ryan. Man, am I going to miss looking at him !
minette
I don't think either of the guys is strong enough, either vocally, or in stage presence, to front that band. Only Dilana has the chops and the star power for it. When Lukas did the little music video with the band last night, I felt he was swallowed up by the sound. It was like a little boy trying to keep his head above the water.

Now, whether or not the band members are sexist and can only envision a man in front of them is another question. I have a feeling they want to go with the strongest player, no matter what the sex. I know I would, if it were my business future.

Storm bugs me every time. Very pretty. Good enough voice. But there is something about her that just reads "fake" or "snake" to me. I think she would be tough to live with. Just intuition.
