Oh how I disliked those ginsu knife commercials but it seems that Arthur made his mark on
America pop culture history with those commercials.

Fascinating!!
What an amusing read! Ginsu knives have indeed, become part of advertising lore. How clever it was for Mr. Schiff to squeeze so much information into so quick a commercial, usually late at night. I can remember being half asleep many times, but whenever those knives started to flash . . . wait! There's more!! At the very least, I listened . . . at the very most . . . I bought.
RIP . . . Arthur Schiff

Aha! So that's the story of the knife I found in the Goodwill store! I didn't know it was famous! Brilliant marketing! Very interesting clips. RIP, Mr. Schiff.
Nevertheless, I have one problem with the knife. Have either of you used one, sillage or Armanis? I can't chop really fast because the food tends to stick to the knife and I have to push it off. Have you ever had that happen? Don't tell Mr. Ginsu but someday I'm gonna buy me a Henckels or one of those types of chef knife...

Hi Fiveoaks . . .
Yes, I've had that happen with all of my knives, I think . . . I have many from Chicago Cutlery, and some from Henckels . . . I have some French knives, too. Funny how you can really get into knives, if you spend enough time, using them. Have never owned a Ginsu. Can't remember what I bought from Mr. Schiff . . . I think it was the 'miracle' but wait . . . veggie slicer.

So Armanis, are you saying the food sticks to knives like the Henckels too? If so I may as well just keep my el-cheapo Ginsu.

Yes, I'd say it does . . . depending of what you're chopping, of course. Raisins are absolute hell, to chop. I've tried putting oil on the knife, but still . . . horrible.

Armanis, you may want to look into a knife with a hollow ground (scalloped, dimpled) blade. They do a good job of keeping food from sticking to the blade though raisins would be a challenge.

Click to view attachmentOh, I see!! Thanks, Tommaso . . . I've never owned Viking, but my birthday is coming up . . . might be a great present, to myself. Another thing: the knife pictured, would be a GREAT, icing spreader!! You'd have a pattern, built right into your silhouette! btw: am not allowed to right click on the knife's image . . . or I'd have posted the shot.
