Since they won't celebrate him in his birthplace (see my blogpost http://perfumeoflife.org/blog/bittergrace/...p?showentry=379 ), let's celebrate him here. Check out this old video from Youtube:

And his wikipedia page is pretty good:

Ooops! I meant to put this in the music forum. Mods, feel free to move it ;-)

Love Freddie one of the greatest showmen ever!!!!

BG, I had no idea he was from Zanzibar and born to Persian parents!! Thanks so much for that information -- however sad the current mess is.

RIP and Happy Birthday to a fantastic showman!

Freddy is in my top 5 list of best talents ever. Didn't know that today was his birthday!
His parents were Zoroastrian. Researching this religion was fascinating for me.
Happy brithday Freddy! Rest in the joy you gave all with your music.

We all, in the Salinqmind household, lovelovelove Queen and Freddy Mercury. Parents and teenager alike. He was a great performer and was in a classic rock n roll band that had that something extra.

I should make a cake! I say this because for Trent Reznor's birthday I made a little heart shaped cake with black frosting (used the paste) and NiN cut out of stiff white frosting. Looked great! Wonder what Freddy would have liked? I'm thinking pink and brown for some reason.

In fact I've known Queen's music since I was a child but it was the time I was really fascinated by it when Freddy died. I didn't want to believe it happened...

Happy Birthday, Freddie!

Bless his flamboyant heart. Happy Birthday, Freddy. :-)

Hm...difficult to imagine him as an older man.

Shame on me, what a poor excuse for a fan I am--I've been spelling his name wrong all this time. Merolik has it right, it's Freddie, not Freddy. Perhaps we should just call him Farrokh.

Yay, Freddie! Would it be wrong to mention that in some of his icon pix, our dear Mando reminds me of the great Freddie?

Also, the first time I heard Keane perform live on TV, the lead singer's voice reminded me so much of Freddie's -- though not so much when I bought the CD. There's only one Freddie Mercury.

And I just now realized that Mr. "Mercury" was a Virgo, just like me, Mercurygirl! I guess we thought along the same lines in some ways.:)

Yes!! I've noticed that when I first saw Mando's avatar :)

Freddie Mercury was a great songwriter and performer. I wish I'd seen Queen in concert!
