POL'ers, can you think of any movie directors, singers or authors who'd be considered great... just by that one thing they did?

In other words, they only had one hit.... but what an amazing hit it was!!!

Off the top of my head, I'm thinking of that incredible 1969 hit record, "Baby, It's You" by the group, SMITH. The lead singer, Gayle McCormick, delivers one of the most thrilling performances in pop music... no question... and yet they only had one hit, and McCormick was, incredibly, never heard of again. How that could be is beyond me.

I just KNOW you can think of some comparable examples from the music charts, the cinema or from literature??

Harper Lee
Margaret Mitchell
Minnie Ripperton sang (in three octives I think?) Lovin' You to the top and sadly died.

Michael Cimino, director, "The Deer Hunter"

I'll submit the 2005 Chicago White Sox!!

Mietros, the group you're thinking of is The Knack.

In music, Ponchielli only did one opera that had popular success, La Giaconda. The rest of his repertory (11 other operas) is hardly performed.

Also, I never hear anything else by Carl Orff except for Carmina Burana.

I think Carmina Burana may have been quite enough out of him! :-p
