Surely the powers that be must have realized that one of the most important parts of the film would
be communicating smell
There was a 20 year battle to make this movie and we may be disappointed.

I read this book and never liked it (except the descriptions of the perfume boutique on the bridge). The story made me sick, in fact. Wanting to see the film would be doubtful to begin with and when I learned they were ignoring the physical type of the main character and casting a person of completely opposite type, that turned me off altogether.

I received a copy of the book when it first came out, as a gift from my aunt, as she knew I loved a good "creepy" read and "perfume".
I never had the heart to tell her how much I disliked the book and how much it disgusted me.
I was in my early twenties when I read the book...and when I started reading here, on POL, how many people thought it was wonderful...I did begin to wonder if I was perhaps too young and not sophisticated enough...to appreciate it.
Well...I tried to read it again...
Nah. I still found it not to my liking.
Ha. And this from a person who enjoys her Hannibal Lector books....
Anyway...I never could imagine how anyone could make "Perfume" into a movie...and didn't think it would 'go over' all that well...if someone tried...
