That comment on makeupalley made me laugh... and almost put me off my ebay purchase of EDP...for a song.

I have been fascinated by this one for a couple of years but could not find a bargain price on the EDP... then scored it on ebay, gently used (a few spritzes missing). I have yet to try the EDT.

Because the opinions I have read on this were so strong, I had to try it. I agree to the "ashtray" comment... when I first opened my ebay package, I thought that this had come from a smoker's house. Later, when wearing, I thought, "who's smoking." Hah! I realized that the tobacco scent was coming from me.

The tobacco in Mauboussin is not a wet, leafy tobacco. It's an unabashed, party-going, Rat Pack kind of tobacco. Imagine how Shirley MacLaine might have smelled after spending an evening fixing snacks for the Boys during their one of their all-night poker games. She'd smell like this: a rich, voluptuous feminine perfume, unapologetic, mixed with... smoke!

Oddly enough, I like it. There's also overripe fruit, woods, and a benzoin caramelly floor. Not for the shy. Plus, it's somewhat a shapeshifter as the hours go on.

Sillage, it has. Lasting power galore. A fun but not "girly" fragrance. This is a full-blown scent.

Really? I'd thought all I noticed from Mauboussin some years ago was a uber-vanilla Shalimar sort of scent. Hmmm ... . Wonder which formulation I tested? Gotta check my stash for that mini. (the bottle was so pretty I couldn't resist buying the mini)

It certainly makes life interesting how different we all are. I've been through many bottles of Mauboussin - EDT, EDP and parfum and never got that tobacco note!
I absolutely loved this fragrance to death and couldn't get enough of it. Sadly, now my obsession is over and I can't go back to it.

Couldn't take it. The smell of rotting fruits was suffocating. Cute bottle. I got a mini of it at Perfumebay or someplace and had to find a home for it.

Tracey at the Perfume House in Portland introduced me to Mauboussin EDP when it first came out and at first I didn't care for it either, it took about three wearings before I was hooked forever. It is one of the warmest , most interesting, intoxicating fragrances I have ever come across for fall and winter. No dirty ash tray for me or I wouldn't be wearing it for sure. On me the plum, amber, vanilla come out in a very good way. But I also love Arabie, Quadrille, Femme all of which are in somewhat in the same vein and I can wear all of them beautifully. Body Chemistry has everything to do with it.

I love the EDP way over the EDT formulation.
