Les fleurs du Mal...St. Moritz Vibes Vol. 4

Lots of jazz elements I like but some off beat sounding stuff. I've already almost worn it out!
There are a couple of selections I do not care for but over all I like...

This is the sound I'm digging most of all...

Anyone have any other recommendations for similar sounds?

I like Pat Metheney, Miles Davis, Euge Groove, Dave Koz, Third Force, Chris Botti, Mickey Hart...

Thanks!

LOVE and I mean...LOVE Sade...a friend said her husband (overgrown boy) calls her Sade (like spade without the P) ha ha ha ha..........

I love her "Kiss of Life" song on my Best of CD...listened to that CD many many many a time driving up and down the "5" in San Diego going back and forth to work! She made my commute so much better!

Nice sounding stuff. A lot of music ran through my mind while listening, so trying to capture some of it...

I think you'd really enjoy Flora Purim and also Tania Maria. They are both Brazilain jazz goddesses.

Quite possibly also New York Voices- practically any of their CD's but especially Hearts of Fire & What's Inside.

What kind of Miles Davis do you like? Have you listened to any Bill Evans?

If you like Pat Metheny Group you might also enjoy Special EFX. I have their Global Village CD.

Also, you can't go wrong with Spyro Gyra- their music always makes me feel good.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

I bought Kind of Blue about six months ago and lately I have played it to death!

I love Pat Metheny's Imaginary Day and Speaking of Now. Both have had lots of play in my car and home!

Have you ever listened to any Mickey Hart? He was a popular musician in the 60's era. Now he's making his own new age sound. Not a jazz sound but really different. My husband bought his CDs a few years back and now we have most of them.

Some similarities to Cusco but I like Mickey's funky twist on things!

So excited to meet another Pat Metheny Group fan. I've seen them several times live, have all their CDs, and certainly could go on an on about them and their music. Have you heard their The Way Up CD- truly inspired stuff. If you like Imaginary Day I'm sure you'll enjoy this one.

Kind of Blue is one of my favorite Miles CDs. Whenever I listen to it, I'm always amazed at how fresh and modern the music sounds yet those sessions took place in 1959! Such timeless music.

Are you familiar with either Wayne Shorter or Herbie Hancock? Both hail back to the BlueNote lable era and both have gone through lots of changes and styles in their playing over the years. Hard for me to choose which style I like best. Definitely both worth checking out if you enjoy Miles though.

I've only heard Mickey Hart's Planet Drum (and of course have heard some Grateful Dead- not really my favorite stuff, but they do jam a lot.) If you're recommending him, I will search out some of his newer stuff though.

Also wondering Cally, do you listen to any Steely Dan at all? Couldn't help thinking that you might enjoy the CDs Aja, Two Against Nature, and Everything Must Go.

Am at present having love affairs with Chick Corea's To the Stars and anything by Vital Information (especially Come On In.) They're a bit more to the fusion side of jazz/rock but really tasty nonetheless.

Will be curious to hear what your listening to next! :~)

Great! More ideas of what to check out! We can have our own personal music thread! Hee hee hee...

There were a few Pat Metheny CDs that I wasn't sure if I'd like. I always try to go to Barnes and Nobel because I can listen to clips there before buying...PLUS I just LOVE Barnes and Nobel anyway!

There was one after Speaking of Now...okay just went to Amazon.com...it was The Way Up. I listened to a few clips of it a while back and didn't think I'd like it but listening to it now...I think I will have to splurge and buy it! Funny how different moods the music can strike you differently.
I also need to burn some copies of my other PM CDs so I can have one in the house and one in the car.

Which other Miles Davis CDs do you recommend? I've listened to some others but this is the first one I've bought. I'm not a music snob and I like smooth jazz. It's evolved into liking more traditional jazz artists like Miles Davis. I guess like a lot of things it is an aquired taste? A few years ago I probably wouldn't have liked some of the music I am listening to now. I grew up around lots of "church music" and I don't mean soulful gospel! Also was exposed to lots of country music which I now really can't listen to for long. Boy have things changed! I was always a bit of a maverick! Doing my own thing!

Not sure about Wayne Shorter...sounds familiar though. Herbie Hancock is great but haven't listened to him real recently...I might be thinking of the late Grover Washington Jr. Oh no! now I know...I've heard the John Mayer collaboration a zillion times! Yeah very cool!
Just listened to some Wayne Shorter. I LIKE! I'll have to copy some of these recs down...

Also love some George Benson...

"This is Jazz" CD is one I'd like to get.

Steeley Dan was really really hot when I was in high school and afterward...okay I'm 45...there I said it!
Ha ha ha...one of my friends from San Diego really liked Steely Dan a lot. We were the same age. Maybe I will have to re-explore them! I lean toward the Deacon Blues and Baker Street type vibe they did.

So far my fave Mickey Hart is this one...Spirit into sound. We listened to it a lot during our beautiful Grand Canyon trip and it always takes me back to that time. It's a VERY spiritual place...leaves you in awe!
This was perfect travel music for that trip! I guess music is a lot like perfume and it often makes a deep association with a certain time and place.

Okay...one last one...What do you think of Enigma? Interesting. I have some of their music on some compilation CDs. We have a lot of Native American influenced music and it is on some of those CDs. I like it.

Other Native American influenced (yeah I know I said one more...)

We have several by Steve and David Gordon. Great for when you just want to relax and clear your mind.

I'm all over the place! I like lots of different sounds.

It's been fun chatting. Now I have to get my rear in gear! I'll check with you later!

Enigma- yes for a while there I was quite into Enigma although I haven't listened to them in long time now.

Miles Davis is - well I have no way of describing Miles really. I tried and sat here for a couple minutes trying to come up with good, descriptive words and none came to mind- at least none that really captured me. There is nothing quite like his Kind of Blue CD, although I very much am intrigued by Amandla and Tutu. Bitches Brew can be very "challenging" to listen to and while it's brilliant for many reasons, it's also not something you'd put on at a dinner party and expect everyone to be comfortable with! Ones that I have yet to get are Spanish Sketches and Round About Midnight.

Grover Washington Jr. RULES! I love his Winelight CD. Some of George Benson I like too.

In some ways I probably am a "snob"- I hate to admit it but I guess I am. I do listen to a large aray of music even still though and I'm even not against the occasional Madonna for dancing or working out. While there is some "smooth jazz" I do like, there is some that sadly sounds like elevator music to me. I do like some New Age stuff and love just about any sort of solo piano that's played with heart. I'm not much for country music, but again, if I can dance to it I'll put up with it. I love some ethnic music too- especially African and Mid Eastern influences. Surprisingly I like some modern sorts of Rock/Metal- I really like Nickleback and Ra and I have a thing for Incubus too.

I grew up in a household that listened to a lot of classical music. My dad is crazy about Bach and my step mother loved German composers. I don't mind Baroque music but only at breakfast time. :~) The few ethnic, pop and jazz albums my dad had I confiscated- so my music growing up, when I could escape to the basement where the other turntable was, was The 5th Dimension, Olatunji Drums of Passion, Godspell, Genius + Soul = Jazz (Ray Charles,) The Supremes (love that Motown sound,) Wings at the Speed of Sound, and I begged for the Star Wars soundtrack. So, there you have my history. :~) Happily I've branched out too.

Lately I've been getting lots of great ideas through Pandora.com. I'm quite addicted to it (am listening to what I call my "Late Night Lounge" station right now.) If you haven't tried it, check it out. Very interesting idea.

I'd be hard pressed to list my favorite music of all time but I think I'd probably lean very heavily toward modern jazz sounds.

When I think of Enigma I always think of Enya- probably because they start off with the same letters. What do you think of Enya? Also, how about Loreena McKennitt?
