Right now I'm loving these Rosemary and Olive Oil Triscuits. You don't even need anything with them, they taste great on their own. I also like that they're relatively healthy-ish. Better than chips, anyway.

Any favorite snacks lately?
tjen
Cashews, Frito Scoops, Dried Blueberries, any chocolate with almonds or pecans, these are the most recent faves.

I love those R & O Triscuits too, great with cheese or on their own.

I don't remember the brand but sweet potato chips that are baked are really good :)
vidabo
my current snack rotation (all either organic, or natural ingredients):

australian chocolates
chocolates from bomboni puccini (pure chocolate raspberry; white chocolate vanilla poppyseed)
assorted filled licorice (caramel, banana, strawberry)
pistachio nuts
cherry tomatoes with olive oil, pinch of salt
physalis
frozen raspberries
Armanis
Bare naked granola . . . with craisins, and a banana . . . delicious.
glorious1
Whole grain rod pretzels dipped in lemon hummus.
OR........dipped in Marie's light blue cheese dressing.
Thomas
Dried blueberries or cranberries. Well, any blueberries will do, even frozen.
Pistaschio nuts - well, pistaschio anything, even pudding.
VelvetSky
My favorite snack is something I can't get...or at least without paying an arm and a leg.

Twiglets...little Marmite-coated sticks from England.

Gawd...I love them.
leopoldo
I'm with Mary on the Twiglet front. Difference is, I can get them from any store for under a pound. Sorry Mary!

Me too! Twiglets are one of the many things I took for granted while growing up in England. Now I covet the little bags that cost a fortune.

But I do have Marmite on my toast for breakfast, it's the next best thing:)

We have a lovely shop here in town called British Treats and Treasures , twiglets , Walkers crips , proper Cadbury chocolate , Walnut Whips and more so much more. The prices are a bit
higher than domestic snacks , but I admit well worth it to get my mitts on some of these delicasies.

Lucky you Nubka,

If you and Velvetsky ever swap here on POL, she could send you samples of frags and you could send her bags of Twiglets. That's a fair trade :)

Marmite and Twiglets are a source of love or hate here in the UK - something a Marmite TV ad campaign exploited brilliantly here a few years' back.

Nigella Lawson is a big fan of marmite - she whips it into butter before spreading it on bread or toast. Oohh, yum scrum!

And you're right about the weaning Sofia.

(some people say it tastes and smells like poo. They're crazy and belong here)

Funny site! I never ate a Twiglet (How can the vegetarians? Makes me thing of Piglet.), but I like Marmite. I put a dab on my hard-boiled eggs with a shot of Tabasco.

Speaking of vegetarians, my favorite snack is a legacy of my own veggie era:

http://soybean.com/snack_ecart.htm

Good stuff, if you are not afraid of soy. They guy who owns this company is quite a character.
leopoldo
Soy holds no fear for me

LOL!!!!

Maybe you should ask Nigella for advice. She looks like an expert on the subject.

These sound delicious, flowerlady! I'm putting them on my list right now!

Smartfoods popcorn and joining glo in enjoying pretzels and hummus--only I eat the pretzels by themselves or dipped in yogourt and the hummus is the spicy variety with red pepper slices.
ChloesDad
Natural peanut butter on anything...especially apples. Would sushi be considered a snack? Cashews, almonds, and pistachios...heaven.
ForTheLoveofMando
any crunchy peanut butter right out of the jar
Katie
I have a thing for prunes...
I know... 'keeps you regular' and all that! I just love the mixture of sweet and sour and a hint of bitterness - they are particularly good with almonds! Or with MARZIPAN! :-p
Nobody I know seem to like prunes though.
K.
PerfumeMe
Are Twiglets just pretzels coated in Marmite? Couldn't you make them? I will have to ask the ex-pat shop near me to carry them. I love a dab of Marmite on buttered toast.

I like the orange flavored ones! But not the plain old pruney prunes.

Other favorite snacks: olives, cheese cubes, dried blueberries, peanuts (unsalted).
VelvetSky
No. They really aren't like pretzels coated with Marmite, but that's an interesting idea.

They are a world unto themselves.

I like prunes, too. They do go well with all kinds of nuts and nut butters. Also, they are great chopped in banana bread, etc. Actually, I like all kinds of dried fruit: apricots, figs, dates ...
Bonski
recent snacks have been mince pies and stollen. Both Christmas treats that are gone from the stores now.
lmatchgrl
I love Marmite. Gotta find these twiglets.

I adore prunes too, as well as marzipan. A friend gave me two little pink marzipan pigs for new years and I ate them yesterday. I ate them ###### first as I felt awful bitting off their heads. Today I had a favorite snack of ritz crackers with cream cheese and hot pepper jelly.

Catie Ribbons
Braunschweiger and cream cheese on low sodium Triscuits...and smoked oysters, sharp cheddar cheese, and grape jelly on the Saltines with no salt on top.
I really shouldn't have all the salt...but these are rare treats.

Catie, I love smoked oysters on Triscuits. Some nights, that's dinner.
BitterGrace
Mmmm ... smoked oysters. I haven't had any in years. Gotta get some.
Laemco
Herb Grissol crackers w/bruchetta and baba ganush
dried cranberries
Smartfood popcorn
dried candied salmon...outta this world!!!!

My son is a big Marmite fan. Nothing makes him happier than a fresh jar of the salty brown paste. He is thrilled to hear of the existence of Twigs!

I like salted nuts - almonds, crispy peanuts, pecans.
Olive oil on anything makes a good snack.
Crackers with humus.
Bread with butter and honey.
Nibbles of great cheese.

My snacking is salty, befitting my Vata nature.
volupte
For all you TWIGS fans out there.

Check on line for British foods to buy them or maybe you have a store in your area that sell foreign foods, I go to a small food market in Nashville that sell food from all over the world. They are quite inexpensive in England but a bit pricey here, if you need a TWIG fix though you do what you have to do :)
VelvetSky
By Twigs, do you mean Twiglets?

I have a couple of inport stores in my area, and I checked while I was in Vegas at the 'International Marketplace' there. No score. The manager said that the inport tarrifs right now are beastly on stuff like that.

I've searched online British food stores many times for Twiglets. Unfortunately, they are all prohibitively expensive that way. Like 5 or 6 bucks for a small bag...before shipping. Nope. I mean, I love my Twiglets, but I'm not crazy.

No problem...I have a "secret source". :) Thnx

Yes.

Sorry. Didn't mean to get familiar with the honorable Marmite treats.

Barbara...your son has got to try them! He will love them as much as I do. Mmmmm. Twiglets.

Here is a bag of My Precioussss

I Googled them and found a UK supplier.
VelvetSky
There are many places online to buy them, but as I said above, be prepared to pay a crazy price for the small bags!

I finally found these at my local expat store and was looking forward to trying them. Disgusting! Kind of bitter and harsh, nothing like Marmite. I was so disappointed. I bought two tiny bags for $2 each.

Fortunately, I also found Mr. Kipling Mini Battenbergs -- "a light chequered sponge with apricot jam" and marzipan coating. Yummy! Also bought some mini mince pies by Hoppers: "with the finest fruits and marmalade, steeped in Cointreau and baked in a delicious orange flavoured shortcrust pastry." This store has so many excellent British sweets that it's dangerous. Bloody expensive, too, with the miserable exchange rate.
VelvetSky
Good, more for me. :)

I'll trade my Twiglets for the Mini Batterburg cakes (scroll down about two-thirds, enjoying the view of all the other delish Mr Kipling products)

Mr Kipling cakes
