I saw a vintage bottle of this and had never heard of it. The only piguets i love are futur and baghari.(the old one havent tried the new release yet) has anyone tried or know visa? is it rare?

Hi Glam,

My perfumery's owner is friendly with the current boss of Piguet and told me they will introduce two new scents, one for women, one for men.
The women's is called Visa. It is another reissue (originally introduced in 1945), possibly the second one will be Calypso (also an oldie, men's fragrance - 1959) but I'm not sure. The current Piguet owner, I was told, is adamant to keep the scents as authentic as possible.

I had received a sample of this through a swap by someone who does a LOT of Ebay sales/buys and general selling here, there and everywhere and I am now wondering if what I sampled is real or not (not due to the responsibility of the swapper who was extra kind to include it!) and how one (even if consider myself rather knowledgable) can be certain on authenticity on such matters. I would dearly love to have something to compare it to and tell you. It was sent by someone who is considered a connoisseur like posted on another thread, yet as Fiveoaksbouquet so succintly posted on the same thread is it the same case as with museums and collectors who had been duped by a well-known forger and did not admit to it not to lose face afterwards? Beats me...It's been a while and I wouldn't presume to ask and be a pest, especially now that everyone is questioning their purchases.

What Vidabo says about the re-issue is correct per my sources at Piguet (although I still haven't received a mail about the different versions of Bandit we had been asking about here, remember?)

I have both the original Visa and Calypso. They are both women's fragances.

Visa is an aldehydic floral similar to others of that era. It actually reminds me a bit of the reissued baghari which I like but is more densely floral than the original baghari which is more green. Calypso is a soft spicy floral just verging on an oriental.

None of the other Piguet perfumes ( I have about 7 of the vintage Piguet perfumes) were as startlingly unusual as bandit and fracas.

I do like the new baghari. It has an old fashioned smell, like a thicker L'Origan. I look forward to reissues of the other original Piguet perfumes. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Thanks Katy. The men's may be, then, Cravache. In any case, or so I was told, they are planning to reissue a men's fragrance too.
katy
Yeas, there was a men's called Cravache. ( I think there was a women's called Cravache too.) In many cases there were men's and women's versions with the same name, such as futur, although Calypso was only a women's. It gets so complicated because the Robert Piguet label was sold to another company which created several more perfumes with the Robert Piguet name.

I have both Visa and Calypso in the vintage extrait. But I have so little of Calypso I haven't yet tried it on...
However, with Visa, I have two different ones, one which was still sealed. They both smell the same so I guess I can be pretty sure it's the real thing. When I first tried it on my first impression was "oriental Bandit". As Katy said, it's a dense floral with quite a bit of patchouli - I find it rather animal and makes me think of fur coats and pearl necklaces. In any case, it has that distinguished "dirty" Piguet" vibe!

Concerning Futur, which I have in EdT, can anyone tell how to distinguish the female version from the masculine, bottle wise...?

the bottle of visa i saw is vintage , sealed. it sounds like i would like it. i dont like fracas (hate tuberose in anything) and i dont like bandit. i looooove futur (was their a man's and a woman's ? i have a huge bottle and i thought it was just a male scent according to all the mr turin wrote about it) and iloooove baghari, which i have a vintage of. hmmm maybe i can get it cheap....ill find the listing and send a pic for thoughts....

heres the pic....of the vintage visa.

I have Visa in edt and parfum - both are fabulous. It's in the vein of Rochas Femme, for me, with that sexy-womanly-dirrrrty vibe. On my skin, the parfum is very animalic, with a touch of leather.

If they do a good job with the re-release, it will be worth checking out. As soon as I smelled it, I wondered why it ever got discontinued in the first place - it's far more interesting than most scents out now.

I love rochas femme!!!!!!!!! think i would like it!!!!!!! thanks guys!!!!

Bumping this one:

Besotted I saw this was your SOTD - thanks for the notes*: an appetizing lot.
Is the immortelle really noticeable? And the leather accord?

Who else has tried this? Please share your opinion!

*top notes: white peach, pear, violet leaves, Italian bergamot, mandarin
middle notes: ylang ylang, rose, immortelle, orange flower absolute
base notes: Indonesian patchouli, sandalwood, vetiver, moss, vanilla, benzoin, gourmand leathery accord

Just wanted to say hi to Glam. Nice to see you post.

I haven't seen the Visa reedition yet, but here's a review by Marie-Hélène on The Scented Salamander:

http://www.mimifroufrou.com/scentedsalaman...t_2007_per.html

Apparently the formula has been quite thoroughly revamped, into a peachy floral that reminds the reviewer of Estée Lauder Pleasures Delight in the topnotes and of Angel in the drydown.

Victoria of Bois de Jasmin finds it disappointing :

Marina of Perfume-Smelling' Things likes it more, but thinks it has a modern feel rather than a vintage vibe :

I haven't tried the original so can't compare the two versions, but the reissue is very nice, a floriental with fresh fruit notes up top. (Fresh fruit, not as in a watery fruit cocktail but as opposed to the dried fruit compote of Femme or Zut.) I get a lot of baking vanilla in the base. I haven't been able to detect any immortelle nor leather, pity. Did get a big hit of patchouli as it was drying down though.

Gotta love the Swiss Modern/Cassandre-esque artwork for BANDIT (above). In fact, there's no reason at all why it couldn't be an actual A.M. Cassandre; in fact, the more I look, i'd bet on it.
Vanille
I tried the new version, with grateful thanks to Robin of NowSmellThis. It reminded me surprisingly of Guerlain's Attrape-Coeur; I'm not sure I could have told the two apart on my skin. Nice, and a vintagey feel but definitely modern.

Carmen, thanks so much for the links. ScentedSalamander is halted by my phishing filter. Apparently the site tries to retrieve personal information from my computer. I choose to boycott them therefor.

Marina's review is quite encouraging, and even if it is somewhat akin to Angel, as Victoria feels it is, it may be an interesting alternative for those who can't or won't wear Angel. But i dread anything really sweet at the moment. Patchouli plus vanilla (thanks Terry) makes me think of Coromandel. After all the patchouli based pink chypres and florientals (Allure Sensuelle), I'm suffering from patchouli-fatigue. Still as soon as I can, I'll pop by Celeste here in The Hague, which carries Piguet. But no hurry and no illusions for its potential to topple L'Air...

Rasp, I see what you mean, but this might well be an epigone of Cassandre. Google didn't show up any info about a collaboration between him and Piguet.

Man, that white/black packaging is beautiful.

Love the new Visa, never tried the vintage, so I can't compare on that point. Met Aurelien Guichard at Bergies this past Saturday & he said that he did try to keep it as close to the original & still "update" the fragrance. I can tell you that both my sister & I tried it on & loved it. Aurelian said she brought out the "gourmand" aspect & I brought out the "oriental". So 'tis safe to say one can apply the terms gourmand & oriental to the new Visa.
This has become a real favorite of mine over the past week. The sillage is soft but very long lasting. The scent curls around you like an expensive cashmere shaw. imo
Definitely worth a try on the skin for a true test.

I can just smell it on RHM and Cindy; it is very lovely.
And they have WONDERFUL chemistry...

It didn't sing on me as well as I'd hoped- but you have to try it on the skin.
Paper doesn't reflect this one at all.
On me , it felt pretty, and a bit retro-
But I have a LOT of orientals, so I passed.
