Full Version: Question About Magie Noire

This time of year I start to think of Magie Noire. I almost always wear it to any Hallowe'en thing I go to. It also makes me feel closer to my Mother, who passed away when I was 13. I don't know if she actually wore it or not, but it puts me in mind of her.

Anyway, my question is this: I scored a 1 oz bottle of the Huile Parfum (perfume oil) on Ebay a year or so ago. Does anyone know if this is the pure parfum, or is it just another form of Magie Noire with a different concentration? I have never seen it before or since the Ebay score. Searches on Google don't come up with much.

It's wonderful stuff, BTW. I traded away my edt after getting this. It starts with a much greener edge that I never got from the edt.

Oh, and finally, I wanted to share this great review of MN on the Perfume Smellin' Things blog:

Here's a link to an ebay auction with a (fuzzy) picture of it.

I paid much much less for mine than the winner of this auction. I think I paid less than $20 including shippinig!

Bumping this up in hopes that someone may know the answer to my question...

Well I will say no.
It is a body oil to enchance the wearing for the fragrance.

Few years back Serge Lutens brought out a range of these to match his export line.

Or actually a bath oil. Remember Youth Dew started life as a bath oil.

I think that this isn't pure parfum. I think it's like bath, or body oil. I remember from a book about Jean Patou that the first version of Chaldee had the word huile, it was a suntanning oil in the 1920s. It was several years later that the actual fragrance was launched by request of avid patrons.

Thanks for your feedback! I finally did find a bottle of the parfum on ebay, and it was in the normal .25 oz size that one often sees pure parfum in, so I bet you are right.

Well, whatever this oil is, I treasure it. It is definitely at least edp strength, and is subtly different from the edt .

I haven't tried the huile (which is oil). But I love Magie Noire and I think I'm the person that took the edt off your hands. wink.gif

It was you, Rosebud? I can never remember these things. I am glad you are enjoying it! I think I traded it away since I felt I didn't need two Magie Noires, and I liked the oil just a little bit better.

BTW, just a note to folks to avoid the MN in the all-plastic spray bottle. These can be found cheaply on ebay and elsewhere, but they are just not good--don't smell right--or at least that has been my experience.

The Huile Parfum was my first experience with Magie Noire and I LOOVED it. I don't think they make it anymore. Other than that, I'm no expert. I'd go with the other impression that it's the bath oil thing, and that parfum/extrait is another thing. But whatever you do, don't dump your Huile Parfum in the bathtub! Dab and delight! Too bad they don't make it anymore.
