Full Version: Miel De Bois?

I was braced for the worst. First I got a beautiful honey note, just like the scent of the honey combs my dad would bring home usually in a glass Ball jar. It would be slightly warm, so the scent was as much honeycomb as honey. It was a lovely opening accord. Then slowly, something totally different came through--fresh milled sawdust. It was a very familiar scent at home, since we had a full time carpenter, other people had maids, not us. It's not the same as a pencil box, or Cabaret. It's a hardwood like oak or French walnut. Then the two accords swing back and forth until the third act. Now this is interesting. "Caron" flashed in my memory. I dismissed it and made myself wait half an hour. Yep, there's no denying it, Serge had a bottle of Narcisse Noir and Narcisse Blanc extracts on his desk when he composed Miel de Bois. No, Narcisse Noir edt or edp doesn't match, it's the extract with the strong almost rubbery topnote of beeswax over something close to Welch's white grape juice. It was considered to be scandalously sexy in 1911. I think Miel de Bois is marvelous.

Wonderful!

I so wanted to like this one. I don't hate it the way others here do, but it was just too much honey for me. (And I love honey.) It just grew and grew and grew, like The Blob. Like honey on steroids.

But it sounds like you're picking up exactly what was intended -- honey and *woods*. I missed the latter. Congratulations!

i love this one, too... it touches a deep part of me... triggers memories i can't bring up fully... and i find it very comforting. it's great to sleep in, too. glad you discovered it!

I wasn't crazy about this one, but neither did I have a particularly terrible experience. I just got strong, deep, organic honey. Not my thing, but I didn't smell anything outhouse-y about it.

My experience exactly. Twitchly, could we be fragrance twins? Also, in the bottle Miel de Bois doesn't age well. All the top notes go away and the juice gets cloudy.

Well, just to report back, it's been on my wrist for six hours now. It's back to the exact smell of fresh honey in a honeycomb. I sniff my wrist and I think "honey", but then I open a jar of organic honey and it's far sweeter. No, Miel de Bois is the honey and honeycomb together. My son said it smelled good and dear hubby said it smelled like candy. I think it's rather fascinating and simple. I'm into simple lately. What it doesn't smell like is perfume. This is my first sniff and it cool outside. I'm not sure it would have done as well in warm weather, just a guess though.

So many dislike this Serge Lutens.
I know Prince Barry loved it and bought a full bottle.

I did get a sample and was shocked at how intense the honey was. I was worried about passing bees mistaking me for a hive!!! When Serge does amber it is dirty dark and rich. When he does honey it is rich, dark and thicker like a fly caught in amber.

Minnette, I slept with Meil de Bois last night. It is very beautiful!

I am glad that more people are now starting to appreciate Miel de Bois. For a time I was thinking that I was in the minority.

I love the smell of honey & honey comb. I will have to sample this when the fires die down some more.

What a beautiful description, chanel!

It sounds lovely.

So what are the aspects/notes of MIEL DU BOIS that people are finding objectionable? Is it indolic? Sweaty? Musky?
cazaubon
You are so lucky! On me it smelled like a dirty baby's diaper. Totally disastrous.

People seem to think that it smells like Pipi le Chat.

Ah, new fragrance love. I haven't had the nerve to try this one, yet.

Enjoy!

I love this one too. I get wood and wax and honey and lily notes; sometimes a wisp of suede.

Ah oui? Pour moi, le parfum Pipi Le Chat c'est magnifique!

hihi - I am totally behind this in the loving of MdB.

For me this is THE ultimate fragrance that conjures instantly the image and feeling of spring - I can't explain it but I feel euphoric when I wear it. I don't get that from any of my other favourites and I wish I could reach such an emotional effect with my fragrances.

I should have loved this one - honey and woods, what's not to love? - but all I could smell was strong, straight household ammonia! Sniffing it actually made my eyes sting and water. I've tried it several times and got the same reaction every time.

You need some black currant bud absolute to mix with your pure civet paste. I just got a sample of the former and Guichard was right. kaht-pees.

I can seriously overdose on MdB. The depth and warmth are addictive.I get amazing richness from the layers of honey and wood that keep unveiling.

(as for the eau de chat theory, I have no idea where it comes from. I clean three litter boxes every day, I know cat pee intimately. It's not even close)

Oh, baby-
I would smell you GLADLY in this !

But for me, alas...
I've got to crawl under a rock for about 3 hours before you can get near me-
THEN, it's glorious.
But my poor, long-suffering friends and family don't have the patience for this, LOL...

I don't ordinarily care for honey notes, but I made an exception for your Eleven Minutes. So I suppose I need to give this a try...
