Fellow Scentaholics:

After years of hard work, our beloved Neil Morris [ a local Boston boy, too !] has snagged space at Takashimaya, and should be ensconced there by Xmas...

Neil will be selling some of his 'vault' scents- extremely lovely and unique niche parfums-

These are not yet on his website- but may be ordered on request.
Many members of Sniffapalooza are familiar with his work, as are Basenoters.

This is a GIANT step.
The nicest part, IMHO, is that this talented and courteous soul didn't step on anyone else to get there-
So good karma DID win out...

[BTW- Neil doesn't pay me for this ! I'm not for sale...]

Won't you join me in congratulating him ?

Congrats to Neil! It's very rewarding to see budding perfumers making their mark in the influential stores. Best of luck to him. Now I want to see some of these perfumers setting up shop in Montreal. So far they are in Vancouver, Florida, Nevada, New York, Paris, London, Florence, over in Germany--where else?--hey, come on guys, it's nice up here!

How wonderful for him, congratulations!

Chaya, I'm not familiar with his work - do you any favorites you can tell me about?

Oh, boy- do I !

From his vault collection-

Gotham: an incensey rose leather chypre

Parfum D'Ida: animalic retro-feel ; begins with aldehydes, blackberry, clove, elemi- then ylang, two gardenias, hyacinth, geranium; base is loaded with civet, labdanum, Russian leather, Haitian vetiver, black agarwood.

Taj: Deep rose with spice and a touch of chocolate and patchouli

Rose of Kali : Exquisite roses, patchouli, woods.

Flowers for men:
Rose, Gardenia [unbelieveable], Lilac

Dark Earth: smells like the earth after the rain, really special

Forest Floor : I love this; it's spicy, coniferous, woody.

Intimate Lily : soft, gorgeous, subtle- doesn't cloy

October:
leaves, spices, pumpkin, burnt caramel, patch.

Clear:
a skin scent with yuzu and linden- really fresh and gentle.

There are lots more-
But I'm gettin' tired...

This one I'm familiar with since Chaya had sent me some of it a few weeks back. It's a nice animalic retro sort of scent. I like it in the drydown mostly. The top notes and middle notes take awhile to getting used to though. But it does have a very nice drydown. A drydown is key in making a good fragrance. You can have wonderful top and middle notes. But if the base notes are poorly constructed, the scent is a failure. I'm not saying that with this scent here. Just in general, from a perfumer's perspective.

Now if I only I could be a success (which I'm not since some have likened my scents to emptying out rooms of people) and really have the time to put more into my sideline thing here. All the best, Neil. I don't know you and vice versa. But the best of luck and hitting the big time.

Seems like most of his scents you mention are not on his web page yet ... ?

Coribou-
They are for sale, but he hasn't updated the site.
If you enquire, he'll send samples.

Mando-

Your scents are loved by many-
And carried by wonderful websites !
They've been reviewed passionately by people from widely varied countries !
You are extremely talented.

Neil's been at this for 25 years, or more.
It's been a long time coming- and his business partner, David, really has been instrumental in getting his work noticed.

I have absolutely no doubt that you will get a big break...
Your work is loved and appreciated.

That was'caribou', lol...

[The D'Ida has been tweaked since last sniffed, so it lasts longer and is richer.]
