I am nominating Magnet & Steel by Walter Egan.

The lyrics are so corny but I like the actual melody of the song. **Lyric Excerpt: For you are a magnet and I am steel. **

Enjoy the video!

Now playing..... Magnet & Steel : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GYyEaQnT60

Eeek! Wow, Dawn, you dredged that one up from the depths, didn't you? Yeah, that's corny!

That song by Bryan Adams, Everything I Do, I Do It For You I think it's called. Ugggh, I just can't stand it. Soooo corny.

If you mean ones that we like, I nominate "Baby, It's Cold Outside," which I just love this time of year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G5Rbkcxiibw

If you mean ones that we like but are loathe to admit it because they're so over-the-top cheesey, I nominate "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion. (Yes, laugh, go ahead. I won't point out that crocheted toilet paper cover in your bathroom.) Here's the video, complete with His Ferret-Facedness: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fyshgI4hMc

If you mean ones that we don't like ... the list is endless, but "MacArthur Park" has to be in the top five. All that sweet green icing, flowing down. Sick-making. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHS8hj4TdT8

The Partridge Family , or was it a David Cassidy solo? So long ago , but " I Think I Love you " is teh winnar!

Corny but I love love love it "Dream Come True" by Frozen Ghost ( perhaps one needs to be Canuckistanian to understand this one or to have been exposed).

I used to love McArthur Park when I was a wee sprong , I was a whacky brat though .

I blame the parents in this case , this would have been a cause for concern and a jolly good reason to send us to therapy.

One I love: Let My Love Open the Door Pete Townsend
One I hate, not worthy of a link: "I'll Make Love to You" Boyz2Men I hate this song with the white hot flame of a thousand suns.

LOL..... actually a friend of mine had it playing on her blog and when I heard it...well the lyrics anyway, I was cracking up. The lyrics are so cheezy.

And, as much as I love Bryan Adams, some of his songs like the one you mentioned above are lame.

Hi Twitchly,

You can nominate whatever you want. No rules here. But out of your list, I am going with MacArthur Park. :)

Hey Nubelia,

I am sitting here now with I Think I Love You playing in my head and tormenting me. ;0

Oh God... parents. My mom was, well actually still is a die-hard Olivia Newton John fan. It's really embarassing when my parent's throw Oktoberfest parties and my mom gets on the Karaoke machine and belts out that old Olivia song.... I Love You, I Honestly Love You. **ahhh, yet another nomination.... I Honestly Love You**

Hi Rebecca,

Oh yes, that Boyz2Men tune is very corny! When I saw your reply, I just started cracking up because I remembered that song and yeah, it's just lame.

Dawn from the bottom of my heart I apologise for the nasty earworm that my post has inflicted upon you.

Another tune has come to mind , Silly Love Songs by Wings. I know I know , I am taking this thread beyond the beyond , but you did ask wink.gif

How about Starland Vocal Band "Afternoon Delight"? I remember loving it back in the day. Skyrockets in flight! Totally corny.

I used to love "Seasons in the Sun" when I was in about first grade.
"We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun...."

Oh guys....I remember riding the school bus and screaming at the bus driver to turn up The Patridge Family's "I Think I Love You"....Bum, bum, bum.....now it's implanted in my brain, nubelia. smile.gif

Oh I could continue....what about "Pilot of the Airwaves"?

I always hated MacArthur Park. It made no sense at all to me.
Never was a huge Donna Summer fan.

One that I still find catchy is "These Boots were Made for Walking" by Nancy Sinatra. Another I admit to still liking is K.C. and The Sunshine Band's "Shake, Shake, Shake"....

Oops, I guess the two I admitted still liking aren't really corny LOVE songs.

Two corny ones I still like: The Archies "Sugar, Sugar" and Tony Orlando and Dawn "Knock Three Times". wink.gif

Oh, yeah. That one is beyond corny. Horrible.

Ditto "Afternoon Delight." "Thinking of you's working up my appetite ..."

How about "Yummy, yummy, yummy, I've got love in my tummy"?

And then there's "Havin' my baby ... what a lovely way of sayin' how much you love me ..."

Twitchly,
During one of the talent shows when I was in High School, some guys dressed themselves up like test tubes. (That was the new thing, then, ya know) and danced to that Paul Anka song, lol.

Hysterical!! I'll never think of that song the same way again!

Hey those are some good songs so far!

How about "Into the Night" by Benny Mardones?

"If I could fly
I'd pick you up
I'd take you into the night
And show you a love
Like you've never seen - ever seen."

It's kind of along the lines of Magnet and Steel which I love by the way!

In the Michael Bolton vein..."Soul Provider" has always been one of my favorites.

"Baby I wanna be your soul provider yeah
Baby I wanna stay that way for the longest time..."

Way back when I had a very good friend who loved the song "Muskrat Love" by Captain and Tennille!
Now that's corny!

"Feeeeeliiings.....whoa whoa whoa" (note to any aspiring lyric-writers on POL, if you're thinking of using "whoa whoa whoa" as a lyric, you should also be thinking of going into another line of work).

"You liiight up my liiiife...you give me hope....to carry on..." (ick)

Anyone remember "Lonely Boy" - about a young man JELUS of his sister??? "Oh! Oh what a lonely boy...when they said he was an only son...he thought he was the ONLY one..." Methinks that songwriter had issues with sibling rivalry! That wasn't a love song but WTF? I think the 1970s had the most bizarre songs.

I'd post some more song titles but I am very upset right now. Someone left my cake out in the rain. It took so long to bake it, and I'll never have that recipe again. Oh no.

I like all these songs, except for the Michael Bolton tune. In fact, I don't like any of his songs, except for "How Am I Supposed To Live Without You"; and I like Laura Branigan's version of that better.

I'm sorry to Michael Bolton fans, but when that man sings, he sounds like he is literally in mortal anguish.

Let it pleeeeeeze be him--oh dear lord---it must be him---or I shall die.
Wail Wail Wail--- and then the phone rings and I jump-- Let it pleeeeeze be him...
Was this Michelle Lee? Not her finest moment.

HA! "I'll Make Love to you" -- I was forced to listen to it endless times in the little restaurant of the Slaas Flat hotel in Manaus, Brazil when we were there during part of the adoption process for our son. I had already been in Brazil for five weeks when that song came out and I felt like I was a stranger in a strange land, never to return from whence I came. Hearing that song today brings back a lot of memories, both good and not so good.
