I don't understand what you're pointing out.

You mean the Sycomore?

Here is the info Basenotes has:

Maybe Sycomore was released only in France?
scentsablyurs
Did they make an Eau de Cologne, 31 Rue Cambon, or Sycomore?
MarkDavid
whoa - sycomore has been discontinued for years, where is that coming from? Did they secretly re-release it?
helg
This is interesting no doubt, on so many levels. Thanks!

The French is very correct on the listing, so I ga it is somether it is someone who does know French well.

Sycomore wasn't released with the rest of Les Exclusifs, of course. Even if only in Paris, we would have heard about it. It's a very old perfume, discontinued.

Now, the bottle looks very new.

so......

1)this is the newest Exclusif that is being released later on but someone from stuff/press had a set and is selling it. But we would have heard something?

2)someone has older minis of the older scents (same little bottle I had in Chanel No19 and No.22) and added the new Exclusifs there too.But the where did they find the box to fit them all like that?

3)someone has gotten hold of official bottles and bags and started printing labels theselves. But the seller has 100% feedback...so doubtful?

Take your pick!

"so I gather it is someone"......duh.....

It's a mystery all right. Another possibiity is maybe they were considering the reissue of Sycomore and made some sample sets for limited distribution to publicists, etc., but then decided against it and took out the Sycomore before producing the final set.

Your Miss Marple colours are showing!

Good suggestion.

Fiveoaks, that was my thinking as well. BTW, just so people don't think I'm the seller trying to advertise here, I asked the seller for that closeup picture of the Sycomore just because I couldn't believe it when I saw it. I have to think that the bidders know that it is something special as well, because at over 100 euro with 8 days to go, it's already incredibly expensive.

Every fiber of my being would say it were a hoax if only it didn't come in that official box. I mean, it has space for 11 scents, and we never heard anything except that Les Exclusifs consisted of 10 scents.

I'm going to ask how the seller acquired the set, and if she can take a picture of the book in case it has a description of the Sycomore...I'll report back!

Miss Marple thanks you, helg! No way of knowing of course unless someone on the inside reported in to POL. If that were the case, however, this would be a rare set indeed! Even without knowing the reason it's rare! If they have recreated Sycomore, maybe they're planning to reissue it at a later date.

What I was thinking is that perhaps it was their intention to release Sycomore early on - but then they were unable to reformulate it where it still resembled the original Sycomore (not that we'd even know that since I doubt any of us has ever smelled the original) so they ended up cutting it. That could be a stretch, but it crossed my mind none-the-less...

Id love to find out whats going on with this, its incredibly intriguing.

I'm so glad you all find it as intriguing as I do! To me, the idea that they were planning on releasing Sycomore along with the Les Exclusifs is incredibly tantalizing. I have hope that it will be released in the future, perhaps amongst a new set of Les Exclusifs? I would bow down to Mr. Sheldrake!!

I actually spoke to someone who has a bottle of the original Sycomore, and he described it to me in the following way: "Sycomore is like Serge Lutens Chene with aldehydes and a citrusy opening.
Its lovely, but nothing staggering." Now, that is his opinion--for me, Chene+citrus would be fantastic.

Does anyone have any inner connections at Chanel? We haven't heard much from the perfume side of the business for a while. I recall an interview when the Exclusifs were released with, I think it was Polge, who said he was trying to reformulate many of the older scents, like Le Rouge and Un idee. Update??

Oh, and I wanted to point out Octavian's post on original Chanel formulas. He said later that it is actually one of the easiest lost Chanels to recreate (Le Rouge being the hardest): http://1000fragrances.blogspot.com/2007/03...mulas-book.html

Well, well, that was quick. I will end speculation and tell you that that set of 11 Chanel mini's was handed out at Chanel's couture show this tuesday. Apparantly Sycomore is the latest in the exclusive line, the set includes a presentation of it which describes it as "a dry, noble and powerful trunk". So, there you go!

"Powerful trunk?" (I want some!) It didn't take that recipient long to put it up on ebay!

Well, thank you!

We have a lot to look forward to if Chanel releases a new Exclusif every now and then.

I *had* heard of this possible reedition. But it was all very hush-hush...

Apparently, the original Sycomore was a woody violet. Karin read me the text that accompanies this one, it talks of vetiver (quite close to violet in some facets), cedar and spices... So it might be a totally different take, with the same name. And also seems to be a bid for something a bit more masculine, which the Exclusifs didn't have.

I was sure it would pop up pretty quickly on eBay (the Chanel show was on Tuesday).

What's not known is whether it's just a one-shot or a real addition to the line... Sounds intriguing, doesn't it?
MarkDavid
Wow, I wonder why we haven't heard about this before this couture show. Im SOO excited, though. Sycomore was always a Chanel I wished I could experience and now it looks like it may just happen!

Chene with aldehydes is a dream come true for me.

Now - will I want an entire VAT of it? Lets see...
C'est Nichist
Oooo Carmen, you were holding out on us! The prospect of a new masculine Chanel is practically making me pant, so yes, I am quite excited. I wish I could get my hands on a tiny sample of it without spending a small fortune.

Lisa Carol (Freemont, I presume?), did you attend the couture show?

Sycomore (along with Ivoire) has always been one of the lost Chanels that I pined for, simply because it sounded so evocative. While I'm an admirer of Egoiste, I find it a little bit too much for me. I would love to see Chanel take on the new aesthetic of simplicity (a la Ellena) and create a clear, but beautiful and strong, male scent.

Please let us know if you hear anything about it being added to the line permanently!

Just giving you all an update: the auction finished-->

So, it seems someone else was excited about smelling a new exclusif as well. I'm also reviving this thread in case anyone has heard anything new about it...
