I watched a 60 Minutes segment -- it costs us $134 million to make $100 million worth of pennies. I'd like to see them go. I'd rather have everything rounded off to the nearest nickel. Although it costs more to make nickels, too!

I hate money. I have my check direct deposited and use my debit card for every purchase. I don't like lugging it around, having it wad up my wallet, and having to count change (and usually drop it and have to pick it up). It's too fiddley.
Yes, kill the pennies! Nuisances!

In the future would then we'd have to say.... a nickel for your thoughts. ;)

People don't even bother picking dropped pennies off the street. I pick them up because I feel sorry for them.

You know why they have to mint new pennies every year? Because people stockpile them. I personally have enough pennies that, if I would just take them to the bank, could supply this country's penny needs for the next 100 years. If the Secret Service would just come over to my house, I would gladly hand them over. I'd take them to the bank myself, but I'm afraid the weight would punch a hole in the floor of my car.

I wish they'd make quarter, $1 and $2 coins, and pitch the rest. There is no reason for things to cost $87.23. Round it up and give it to schools.
lolly, have you seen any CoinStar machines in grocery stores in your area? They take 6-9 cents out of every dollar, but I think that's a small price to pay to be able to turn change into cash myself without rolling or waiting in line.

Oh, I'm aware of the reasonable solutions to my penny problem. That doesn't mean I'm going to avail myself of them.
Six months ago, I put all my change into a reinforced tote bag and put it by the front door. It's still waiting there.

You'd make more money selling it for copper scrap.

I suppose the copper in pre-1983 pennies might actually be viewed as metal value speculation on an incredibly minute scale.

IF they stop taking pennies as payment for my speeding tickets, then by all means abolish them!
