Full Version: Cell Phones Going Public
Perfume of Life > A Civilized Perfume Affair > Talk About Life

I don't know if this has been discussed yet, but cell phones are going public soon, or perhaps they already did.

What this means, as I understand it, is that telemarketers can call you on your cell now, and if you have a plan that charges you for incoming calls, then you will be charged for those calls.

To avoid this, register your cell phone, (and any other phone you don't want them calling) at this number:

1-888-382-1222

You have to be calling from the SAME phone you want to register on the DO NOT CALL site.

You can also register at donotcall.gov

This is good for 5 years, and then you will have to register your phone again, but by then, the number may be different, who knows?

Once you call, your phone should be registered with them in 31 days. When you call it explains everything. Their website might givel you more details...I haven't been there yet.

You can also file complaints online, if you are registered and they still call you. But you must have the phone number of the person or business calling you.

Telemarketers are getting smart. Now they use your OWN number as the number that is calling you!

We have Call Wave. When they call us, it shows OUR phone number, so we don't get their phone numbers and can't report them.

Scent, I signed up for this service once b/c I used to get so many telemarketer calls at home, but the service never worked unfortunately. I STILL got tons of calls. I used to get 4-5 in one night. I ended up disconnecting my land line and now I only have a cell. :-) It works.
