Anyone familiar with this scent? I had bought a bottle of it off Ebay really cheap for 15 bucks just now. I had heard of it in one of my fragrance books but can't find much on it. I would appreciate if anyone can voice their thoughts and impressions on it here

TIA,
Mando

Ooo! I found info on it now:

http://www.piver.com/EN/frameset.asp?rub=produit

How can you get their other scents here?

They have quite a few I'd love to try now!

Mando;-)

I've heard of their Le Trefle Incarnat scent. I wonder what that name means in English. I've always loved that name here. It sort of sounds naughty to me, LOL

Can't wait to try Pompeia now! It says it has patchouli in the base that really kicks in! Cool!

Mando, Les Senteurs in London stocks a few of theirs, Cuir de Russie, Parfum d'Aventure, Heliotrope Blanc, A La Reine des Fleurs and Vetiver.

There is a gentlemen's shirt store in Belfast which sells the range but not seen this one. Will have a look next time I am in town and check again.

Thanks Baz and Donna. I'll have to check out the Les Scenteurs website if I can order from them. I think I saw the link on here somewhere?

Mando :-)

Found this link on some perfumer's interpretation of this scent:

Very interesting.

Mando, the Piver line is not listed on their website yet. It might be a good idea to send Annika/Martin/James/Ian..take your pick, an email to ask about shipping to USA. They aren't exactly cheap to post things over here £5 per parcel, that includes registered post though. Goodness knows what they would charge to send to USA.

Okay, Baz, I'll shoot them an email soon to find out first.

I just came across a blog on the net where someone mentioned they smelled some of the Piver's at the Fragrance House in Portland, Oregon?

I'll check out their site next and see what they carry. I'm interested in the Parfum d'Adventure men's scent now.

I have actually sniffed that one Mando and it was very much a vetiver scent, makes me wonder what the one called Vetiver is like. Funnily enough, in the paper catalogue from Les Senteurs, they don't mention vetiver as one of it's ingredients.

I was able to order Parfum d'Adventure through Escentual.co.uk website. They carry the whole Piver line.

I look forward to smelling this one too now. I'll order the Heliotrope one later next year. It was too pricey to buy 2 with the cost of shipping!

Did you see my post above the one that you have just posted Mando? You must have been typing just as I posted.

Let us know what you think when it arrives.

LOL! I just seen it now as I came back to read your post! I must've posted at the same time as you posted.

Hmm...vetiver-like? That would be nice! I read in the description that it has something from Haiti in it. When I think of vetiver I do think of Haiti here, hehehe

I'll definitely post on it when I receive.

This might be of interest Mando if you haven't already seen it...

I have the Piver Heliotrope Blanc and I love it. It is very similar to Etro's Heliotrope. The lasting power may be a bit better. I got mine from Escentual and am going to have to reorder soon.

Le Trefle Incarnat (Red Clover) is Piver's famous perfume from the late 19th century (1896 or thereabouts) . Many people say it is the first modern perfume since it was the first to use a synthetic, salicylate, and was created in a laboratory. I have never smelled the vintage but it is classified as a fougere (So is Jicky from arouind the same time period) Any vintage Piver bottles and cards, ads, etc. are all collector's items and often fetch high prices on the circuit.

The perfumes of L.T. Piver were my staples when I was a child and a teenager. I had Ciel d'Ete, Pompeia, Cuir de Russie, Floramye, Baccarat and others. I still have bottles of vintage Ciel d'Ete, Cuir de Russie, Floramye, Esperys, but the one I have been looking for is Baccarat.

The original L.T. Piver company was sold off in the late 70's or 80's and only some perfumes are still made. However, the recent Pompeia I smelled was not the same as the original. I am sure that the formula has been altered.

Do you have one of the vintage or the newer ones?

Chris in Portland's Perfume House used to carry Floramye, Espyrys and a few others, but I am not sure if he still does. There also used to be an etailer, the one that also sold the Russain perfumes called Red Moscow, that carried the newer Piver perfumes. (Was it Cosmeticbag?) But the last time I looked, I couldn't find them on that very confusing web site.

If you have a botle of a Coudray perfume and look at the label, you will see that it says L.T. Piver and has their address on the label. There is a connnection between Coudray and Piver now. (In fact, Reve, d'Or smells exactly like one of the earlier Coudray perfumes.)

The last Piver perfumes I bought were Floramye, Esperys and Pompeia and they were available in the perfume section of the Paris department stores. Floramye smells similar to Chanel # 19 and L'Heure Exquise (AG), powdery orris.

Now if I could only find a vintage Baccarat!

At last a Piver expert!

Thanks for all that interesting information Katy.
