I haven't been a fan of the baby-doll look in women's tops, although at some stores that's all that's been available for a couple of years. Saw this one yesterday, though, and I'm tempted to get it. I'd wear it with black or khaki pants, or jeans. It says it's a coat, although I wonder if it's lined. I'd wear a black or orange t-shirt underneath if a shirt was called for.
I'm 36, with (dyed) red hair in a sorta-bob hairstyle. I'm short, and around a size 12. My midsection isn't taut, thanks to recent baby and my unwillingness to spend my spare time doing crunches.
Waddyathink? Is this a look strictly for the under-30 set?
Here's a link to it.... I'd get it in the khaki/salmon colorway. Like the not-quite-Burberry look of it.

I like that but...I think it looks somewhat like a maternity top. So...If ya don't mind if people will wonder if you are pregnant...go for it. :)

Fumebag, that was my first impression too. Dewey eyed, the fabric is very attractive. Maybe there's something out there in a similar fabric with a lower waisted style.

Those buttons would never be attractive on me. It looks like a top to me, not a coat.
I think you could find something more flattering.

My thoughts exactly.

On anyone who isn't stick-thin and under 25 and otherwise very very fashionable--it screams "pregnant!"
I like tops that cross in the front for concealing a not-so-great stomach. The double layer of fabric there helps conceal and smooth things out, and the style helps define a waist.

Agree that it looks maternity.
I'm personally not a fan of the puffed-sleeve-with-collar look that's so popular right now. I think it only looks good on very thin women with narrow shoulders who need a bit of widening. On most women, it makes them look a bit like football players.

Love baby-doll tops with jeans and leggings, I don't like this one. Skip it unless you really, really, love it. You can get something prettier and more flattering, I agree with the other posters.

Sorry, Dewey. This look, while cute, is strictly for the "under 19 and underweight" segment of society. I do agree that the fabric is great, though.

There are loads of fashionable tunic tops that would be more flattering.
I hate puffed sleeves, probably because every dress my mother made for me when I was a kid had them. I got a bargain sundress at Ross for $12 that has them and it's cheap enough that I'm going to cut the sleeves off and fold the fabric under to form a type of interfacing. If I ruin the dress, I haven't lost much, but if it works, I got me a gorgeous dress for summer! Woo hoo!

I'd say either go for it, with leggings, the 'legs come out of nowhere' line, or perhaps with beige flairs that are tight in the upper leg, or go with some of the suggestions here for similar garments with a different line.

I think it's adorable. Get it and see if it looks good on. The color and the buttons would make me happy.

Well hey, thanks for the encouragement of the last few posts! Since Zappos has an easy return policy and free shipping both ways, I'm going to try it. I've seen a lot of tops in this style but this has been the only one that appeals to me - so let's just see how it goes. I'm hoping the plaid will give it a little more of a tailored look than some of the flouncier tops.
Also ordered these....

People of EVERY age are wearing baby doll tops in Australia, yes mainly with jeans/leggings. I like the top and hope you enjoy it.

It looks short...and, personally, I can't see leggings with a short shirt. I guess in my mind there's always the possibility of 'came toe', even if they aren't tight.
I edited this because I hadn't seen the photo on the site and I thought it didn't open all the way down.
Oops.
It's cute. I had two shirts which were very similar back in the early 90s, but they were straight cropped shirts -- no empire waist.

Oh I am not doing this with leggings. With khakis or jeans, and probably with a tank or tee underneath.

I'm in that age group, so you might lend me your ears or close your ears, depending on what that means to you...
Empire waisted shirts are everywhere. If you're slim enough to wear cap sleeves that short and tight, no one will think you're gravid. If it's a coat, it's a spring coat and light jackets lend themself to wear as a regular garment. Worst case scenario: you look like an interesting person.
Wear it with dark wash wider leg jeans that have a cuff, I'd say. Or some slightly sailory chocolate or black tweed. As far as leggings are concerned, camel toe is easy to prevent with spanx, footless pantyhose, or just a thin maxi pad.
Hmmm... I have an extremely high waist. I think I might need at least one of those.

I've seen full-figured gals rock a babydoll top. Just gotta get the right one and it has to fit correctly.

It came in and it's going back.... Sleeves are too tight, and the empire waist hits across the bust instead of under. If I got the next size up, it would be too voluminous.
Shoes are probably going back too: they have arch supports, but my flat feet bow them out anyway.
Sigh.

'Tis alright, I have already consoled myself with a new pair of shoes....
