Last night, following a link to a link to a link on a completely unrelated subject (not medical), I came across an article on a medical website indicating that diagonal creases in the earlobe have been found to be a reliable and accepted indicator of significant coronary artery disease. Has to do with reduced blood flow to the area. I looked a little more, and found numerous articles and studies supporting the theory.
Not intending to start a long discussion of heart disease, but I wonder if anyone here has heard of/has experience with this...?

note to self: cancel earlobe crease surgery.
Actually I did hear that people with really hard teeth tend to develop artery/heart issues. My dental hygienist told me that one, I think she might have been trying to make me feel better about all the work I needed at the time.

I have heard about the earlobe crease correlation with heart disease, but I very strongly doubt that it is infallible, and probably, not that reliable.

I HAVE heard that one about the earlobe crease. My X had creases in his ear lobe. The bottom of his ears kinda turned up. He had a quintuple by pass at around 55!!

Thanks, Sandra. I had actually seen that page on Medline, subsequent to the initial piece I'd read.
My interest is personal (well, of course): I do have these creases, which I know I didn't have the last time I really "noticed" my earlobes. So I got concerned when I came upon that info yesterday. But I also had heart scan last November with a perfect ("0") score...on the other hand, I've been hearing of some doubt in the validity of heart scans... Urrgghh.
I'd like to think that crease in my earlobes nothing more than one more middle-age wrinkle.

Well..............I WILL say that I think they're talking about creases that were always there. My X and my brother always had them when they were young.

Also, weight gain can influence such things as well, which probably confuses the issue.

Rosie girl o' mine, aren't you the one who worries about getting lung cancer from face powder?
I would not worry about ear creases.

Yeah................let's not get too intense. Whatever's gonna happen is gonna happen.
I can't get my nickers in a knot about everything. I have enough REAL stress.

I have heard of the earlobe/heart disease thing too. I can't remember where I heard it, though.

I have heard that before, too. I think I read it in some Health magazine at one time. I do wonder how the correlation was found?

Fulltilt: Oops--yup, that was me. Gee, y'think my advancing age is turning me into a hypochondriac? ;-)
Thanks for input, folks.

It's a common misconception among the nursing profession as well. I have 2 diagonal creases on each earlobe. Personally, I think it has something to do with the way you lay your head (thus your earlobe) when you are sleeping.

Heh. Did you know that someone can tell a lot about your character from the bumps on your head, too? It's called phrenology.

LOL! It's not a real science, but for a while a whole bunch of people believed in it.
