I recently visited the Chicago Chanel boutique, where I finally got to sniff the entire Exclusifs line. (I wasn't whelmed, but that's another thread.) The woman who assisted me was of a certain age, attractive, with what sounded like a French accent. We chatted for a while about the perfumes, and she was quite helpful. When I got ready to leave, she took me aside and told me she was a Chanel makeup specialist, just visiting Chicago that week -- and would I please tell her the name of the lipstick I was wearing? She wanted the brand *and* the color.
So for the quiz -- what was it? No prizes here, just general silliness. Here's a list of the lipsticks I currently own:
-- Clinique Buttershine in Pink Toffee
-- Chanel Creme lipstick in Star Red (discontinued)
-- Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey
-- Lipstick Queen Saint lipstick in Rouge
-- Laura Mercier Stickgloss in Rosewater
-- Lipstick Queen Sinner lipstick in Wine
-- Lancome Rouge Absolu in Tawny Rose
-- Estee Lauder All Day lipstick in Spiced Cider
-- Burts Bees lipshimmer in Rhubarb
-- Shiseido Sheer Gloss lipstick in S5 Berry Sheer

In my heart I really really really want it to be Burts Bees but I think the Lipstick Queen caught her eye.

Congrats on the compliment, Twitch! I'm betting on the Estee Lauder All Day lipstick in Spiced Cider. That's based upon how I remember your pic to be and how I imagine the colour to look. I have no clue what that colour is really like.

I gotta agree. This is a good color.

I went back and had a peek at whats left of my All Day -Spiced Cider , I used to wear this as an everyday lippie ( and still would if inclined towards makeup these days). It is versatile , not garish or loud and yet I cannot see it catching anyone's attention , I could be wrong though.

She's a Chanel MA and she's French so I say it's a red lippy. Maybe the Queen Saint Rouge. Of course whatever it was I'm going to have to go out and get it now.

It would also be hysterical if it was the DCed Chanel , I would hope Twitch a flea in her ear if it was this one, just for the team mind you.

I'm guessing it was whichever was cheapest. Then Chanel will do a knockoff for ten times the price!

This is what I was thinking -- wouldn't it be funny if it was the Chanel lipstick? Anyway, I'm dying for the answer so I can hightail it to the store and buy some.
And I'm going to guess Tawny Rose.

It was indeed the Lipstick Queen, Nubs and Laemco -- but not the Saint Rouge. It was the Sinner in Wine. I had just bought it at Barney's about an hour beforehand. I didn't know I could still wear a matte lipstick, but I can wear this one! It's dramatic and gorgeous, and it wears like iron. Great stuff. The Chanel makeup artist was interested in the brand and in the person behind the brand. She wasn't familiar with Lipstick Queen.
DH also flipped over it. And maybe it was just my imagination, but I think I got more male attention when I wore it. In any case, it's a definite winnah!
Thanks for playing, everyone.

Wow! That's terrific news. The only one I've found with this kind of matte finish and lasting power is a Serge Lutens I bought at Barney's on an impulse, and it cost a fortune. I don't regret it, because it's the best red I've ever worn, but while I was at it I bought Lipstick Queen in Saint Red and didn't like it nearly as much. But the saints are slipperier than the sinners, I think. I'll have to try a sinner -- they're only $18 or something like that, right?

Yes, they're not too expensive. I didn't like the Wine in the saint line at all -- kind of brown and meh. I like the Rouge in the saint line, but I find I like a lot of her sinners a great deal. Very matte, very saturated. Mine doesn't last through eating a meal, but it lasts through pretty much everything else.
I can only imagine what the Lutens would be like!

I have Saint Wine and it works very nicely for me, as a "like your own lips, but better" shade, but I'm going to take a look at the Sinner Wine, maybe later today.

The only LQ I've bought so far is Saint Pink, whose color -- a nice clear, cool pink, good for spring -- I like very much, but whose staying power leaves something to be desired. The Sinner Pink looked warmer, more salmon, which wouldn't work for me, but perhaps I'll try one of the other Sinner shades.

Ok, I'm hooked. Where is everyone purchasing their Lipstick Queen lippies?
I'll need to use an etailer since we don't have anyone who carries this line in my area.
TIA.

I ordered mine from Barneys in Chicago, by phone, just today, I talked to a very nice lady named Bernadette.
(I know, I'm a lemming.)
Some months back, I tried ordering from the Barneys website, but they were temporarily out of the colors I wanted by the time my order was processed, and since they apparently didn't 'do' back-orders, they canceled my order without even explaining. I didn't realize there was even a problem until I began to wonder about the status of my order. I stayed annoyed about it for a while, but decided to order by phone, so they could check their stock and let me know right away what was available. FWIW, they had all the colors I wanted.
Here's
the Lipstick Queen website, describing colors, and listing some other retailers.

I ordered my first LQ lippie via the Barney's web site. Didn't have any problems, fortunately.

A Beautiful Life also carries the Lipstick Queen line. I prefer ordering from Barney's since the shipping is a little less, but my computer won't get me past a certain point on the Barney's website. Either will the computer at school, so maybe it's an area issue.
I love Saint Natural, Saint Wine and Saint Berry. I am not as crazy about Saint Red, but the lady at Barney's complimented me on it (I had gotten it before I got there). Still, it's my least favorite of the ones I own. The other three are very wearable, but for evening, I should probably get a Sinner or two.

I like that Poppy King specializes in only one good product. Lipstick. She has it down to a fine art and I love how retro her colors are. Lucky me, Holt Renfrew carries LQ!!!

I bought a couple of Sinners on eBay and I regret to say they're past it. The texture is quite grainy, not at all creamy. However, the pigmentation is still excellent, so I wear them, topped with a little gloss.

What a bummer! My old Chanel lippie is like that. It's my only fire-engine red, so I hang onto it, but it almost hurts to apply it. Like sandpaper.

The only store I know of that sells them is Barney's. Maybe others know of another place? I took a chance on the Rouge saint and just bought it blind.

My smallish Barney's had testers, so I would bet most Barney's do.
Isn't that fun when you find a lipstick that turns heads? Good, good times!

Exactly, dry and gritty. But at least they're not rancid, that would be pitchworthy.

Isn't long-lasting, great color and great texture the holy grail of lipstick? I have never been able to wear long-lasting lipstick, it is just so uncomfortable on the lips. I would rather reapply every hour than have my lips feel dry. And when I top dry-textured lipstick with gloss, all I end up with is a smeary mess. I've gone to sheerer pinks and glosses for everyday wear. I can apply without a mirror and my lips feel good.
I guess I'll get around to trying more department store lipsticks some day. Lately, I like the Almay hydrating lipsticks. The texture feels good and the color seems to last for a while and then fade gracefully. And the little tube fits well in a pocket - for $8 a tube.

I had the same experience. I felt kind of bad because a very gracious POLer sent me a color that didn't work for her because I was so darn keen to try them. It was just as Is describes - dry and grainy. I thought it was possibly the worst feeling lipstick I'd every tried on.

Hm. I hope mine don't turn grainy anytime soon. I hate that feeling.
