I just got a local's email ---- alleged trucker's strike Wed eve. Gas, groceries, etc etc.
Has anyone heard about this? I've heard grumbles from truckers for months now about
gas prices, of course, they're not compensated from those who hire.... could be the start
of the bad times.... don't call me Cassandra, but....

I head this on NPR this morning. They are protesting the high price of diesel.

I know one thing....groceries are getting sky-high!

I got wind of this from friends at lunch today. I am making every effort to buy locally but do sympathize with the truckers. I cannot imagine in my wildset dreams what they must have to pay for a tank of gasoline.

Heard this on the news last night but so far haven't heard if they're actually doing it yet.

I thought I heard something about Congress (?) trying to get rid of tax breaks for the oil companies in light of their record profits. I thought the war in Iraq was supposed to be for cheaper oil. I wish!

Yikes!!! Diesel costs about $4 per gallon here, and 18 wheelers usually have a couple of tanks on each side that holds from 60-200 gallons each. That's $1,600 to fill up if they hold 200 g each. Considering that they get an average of 5.5 miles to the gallon, they can drive about 70 miles before they have to fill up again. @$1,600 a pop.

I think I read that Congress is asking the tough questions of the Big Oil companies that have taken advantage of tax credits and incentives, but haven't invested enough in renewable fuel alternatives.

I laugh when I hear pundits say we are "going into a recession." Honey, we already are in it and headed for a Depression worse than our parents knew. They didn't have credit cards and few people owned homes, so there wasn't massive debt. Pay off your debts, folks, while you still have a job.

It occurred to me that business principles being what they are, stores will be increasing prices sooner than they might need to, using the trucker dispute excuse. So, since I had an unplanned day off, I decided to stock up on non-perishables. Bad news. Today was already too late. Prices on items like toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc. are already around 20% higher than they were a week or so ago. And you can bet they won't be dropping.

I know Congress is questioning oil executives about their record profits but nothing will come of it. The increasing costs of energy are rippling through the entire economy.

I can't help but feel that we, as a nation, are at a major tipping point in regards to our economy and political system. I can't help but feel that the American Dream is crumbling before our eyes.

$12 billion dollars per month to the war isn't helping.
