Full Version: New Natural Perfumer In Montreal
Perfume of Life > A Civilized Perfume Affair > Talk About Perfume

As I mentioned in my SOTD post, I stumbled upon a beautiful little natural perfumery shop on our street in Montreal last week, which had only been open for a month.

The perfumer himself was there in the shop, and told us all about his 12 scents, 6 masculine/feminie pairings, each named after a continent and designed to give an olfactory image of those places.

We enjoyed sniffing them all, and purchased Bali and Geisha for me, and Matador for my BF.

He was a really lovely person and if you have the chance to stop by, I would definitely encourage you to do so. He does offer samples, and you can order over the phone from him.

Here is the web site, currently only in French unfortunately:

Mr. Hebert used to be the North American director of sales for Thierry Mugler, until he decided to launch himself as a perfumer and start selling his own scents. He has a chemist who comes to the shop every Friday to mix the ingredients into batches of perfume and you can come by and watch and hear about how things are made and get samples.

I'm quite sorry that we couldn't make it to his shop when we met up in Montreal. I'll be sure to go there the next time I'm in my home country -- it's always interesting to discover a new independent perfumer. And he's the first Québécois perfumer, I believe!

Sounds lovely! If I ever make it to Montreal this would definitely be a must. Thanks for posting it. I don't read much French unfortunately (only what perfume has taught me) but will check out the website anyway.

Caz, I hope you and the DBF are enjoying the parfums ClaudeAndréHébert! It is too bad time ran out before we could all go to that shop. I was hoping to get there by now but not yet. However I will do so soon. I'm looking forward to smelling those scents. I hope they're really good because it is a relief to have our own local natural perfumer within a bus ride--well, three buses, actually--but definitely on my route.

Carmencanada, I would consider Lise Watier a Quebec perfumer, although she's not niche and probably not the nose of her scents. It is a Quebec-based company. The more the merrier.

Yes, we really are enjoying them. I wore Bali yesterday, and really liked it. Fred chose to leave his bottle in the Montreal house for use there, but I brought mine with me. I plan to wear Geisha tonight out to dinner.

Sounds very promising! You have a vast range to compare them with. If they seem good measured up against some of your established winners, they must have something going for them!

I just realized, too, that the Lise Watier Institute is on the same street as the new parfumerie, down the street a bit, on the other side. Maybe a new perfume area of town is being born.

I just had a look at the website and the shop is indeed beautiful. Love the concept of the fragrances - the Asia and Europe pairings sound especially enticing. Thanks for posting Caz and enjoy!
