Full Version: Went To The City..
Perfume of Life > A Civilized Perfume Affair > Talk About Life

Went to the city today and did a bit of sniffing of course. Skin tested Tom Ford's Black Orchid. It is quite complex and the truffle is definitely the mushroom and not the chocolate. I do detect the "crotch" smell as Ford himself said Black Orchid had. It didn't really put me off as I have gotten used to a BPAL called Smut which is a very uhh... smutty musk and there was a definite similarity. However Black Orchid is POTENT. I was absolutely sickened by it after a couple hours and it was still going strong. I think it's an interesting, different and as I said complex scent but not one I will be buying. Then again everything smelled overpowering to me today so perhaps at some other point I will feel differently.

Tried some of the Private Collection Tom Fords and thought them quite good, all very rich. I liked the Japon Noir very much and I intend to try it exclusively on the skin some time in the future. While I was admiring it the Tom Ford SA who had a French accent told me that "the Japon Noir is an eau de Cologne". I pointed to the label and said "no, it's an eau de parfum" which it says in huge letters under the name. "Oh no," she said, "this is part of the eau de cologne series". I pointed again and repeated myself. She then told me that some of the Tom Fords were in "the eau de cologne series and this means that they are fruity scents" and that "eau de cologne means fruity". Well this was a very fruity conversation and I had to get out of there because I was getting rather irritated.

My daughter tried Kylie's new one, Show Time. There are hot pink cancan girls bedecked in feathers prancing about everywhere in Myer spritzing through the air. It was a strongly sugarred watermelon, I've smelled worse in the teen-candy category. I liked it better than Pleasures Delight which is also sugarred watermelon.

Also tried the new Gucci called, Gucci.. like how many of their others? And like numerous other new scents it smells purple. Purple purple purple.. I don't think I can ever wear a purple scent but I do think this was quite a nice fragrance. Not sweet, quite velvetty. I liked the bottle too.

Between the Black Orchid overpowering me and my daughter stinking of Kylie (she did not care for it) I got quite nauseated and developed a headache. Am showered and scentless now.

LOL Teacake, you are so funny. I can see you in DJ's with the tres stupid SA annoying you with her ignorance. Myer sounds like a hoot with the Show Girls. I can't be bothered trying all the Tom Fords, I don't know why....they look beautiful....but there are too many of them. Maybe I'll get inspired one day, but it looks like a big job. I will have another sniff of the Black Orchid, interesting about the "crotch" note!!

I really like TF Private Collection. I have Moss Breeches, Tobacco Vanille, Noir de Noir and Amber Absolute. I also have Black Orchid (it starts off strong on me but then settles right down and after a while I can barely smell it). All these scents I find very moody and can only wear them sometimes but I do like them!
I've just finished a bottle of Gucci - not interested in repurchasing. Frankly I don't know why I bought it in the first place, it just did nothing for me every time I wore it.
For the last couple of weeks I been testing TM Mirror collection. The bottles are gorgeous but so far I have not been knocked out by the scents.
I tried the new Chloe on a card today, very sweet and rosey, may test on my skin next time.

Kas24 I liked the Moss Breeches too. The violet one was also interesting, or at least the paper she dipped into a vat of it was several hours later. I completely agree they are moody--great word. Didn't try the amber as I have quite a few ambers already.

I looked over the TM Mirror collection and had a sniff of a couple but these were the last things I sniffed and I was feeling quite icky from the Black Orchid so I didn't register much.
