I'm seriously considering Michael by Michael Kors, which didn't grab me when it first came out, but lately has been tempting me. Has anyone here tried the edt? Would you recommend edt over edp? As for tuberose, I've owned or own Fracas, Carnal Flower, Jo Malone Tuberose, and I've gone through several bottles of La Chasse over the years. So far, Carnal Flower is my favorite tuberose. Nicolaï Number One doesn't work on me. Although it is beautiful, it gets a stale, dank air note after a few minutes. I also have Marc Jacobs which many people consider to be heavy on tuberose, but my skin turns it into heady gardenia. (Tuberose and Gardenia smell distinctively different on me. Tuberose gets creepier, and haunting, while gardenia gets summery and bright.)

Recs please, dear ones? ohmy.gif

I was at South Coast Plaza yesterday evening, sniffing here & there and I forgot to try this! Can you believe it? Something was nagging at me, and when I got home I realized this fragrance had slipped my mind. Nothing I smelled begged me to take it home with me.

That mall was such a madhouse yesterday, especially Nordstrom, that I couldn't think straight. Guess what women's fragrance an SA met me with as soon as I walked into the store?...Pink Sugar. One SA handed me a scent strip with Aqua di Giò for men, which I will be purchasing when a crowd isn't trampling me...and then another SA came at me waving a paper strip and said, "Have you tried Pink Sugar?" I said, "No thanks." Nothing against Pink Sugar as a scent, but I wanted to say, "Are you kidding? Is there anyone who hasn't tried Pink Sugar?" I wish she'd been plugging something new and summery; like Tuberose-Gardenia!

Pink Sugar does not mix well with Aqua di Giò on a 110 degree day. I digress.

Hey you!

I'm trying to forget about this one! laugh.gif I saw it on LuckyScent's site and almost ordered the sample. I haven't yet, because I'm terrified that I'm going to fall in love with a $225.00 fragrance that costs $110.00 to refill. If I didn't buy so many fragrances, the price wouldn't bother me as much, but I could get 3 or more bottles for the same cost...I just wish I'd fall in love with something like Sand & Sable one of these days. wacko.gif

We should meet for lunch this week!

Velvet Tuberose from BBW is a very nice tuberose. The price ain't bad either.

argh! You poor thing!!

But when you get the chance, do try the EL Tuberose-Gardenia. It's lovely stuff, and I usually hate everything EL makes.

I'm such a tuberose/gardenia fan that I bought mine online, untested, back during the holidays. Definitely a success experience for me. smile.gif

I'll second this. There are better ones, but you already know about them, and this one is very cheaply satisfying. Plus, if you feel like dropping cash, you can always buy every single ancillary product in the range.

A Travers La Miroir by Thierry Mugler is my favourite Tuberose.
rebecca1964
EL Tuberose Gardenia, like Rasputin says, it has the fresh, green aspect that others do not.
BBW Velvet Tuberose
Sand & Sable I think it is a lot like EL Tuberose and Gardenia, minus the green.
carmencanada
As the proud owner of Tubéreuse criminelle, Fracas and Carnal Flower, I really can't get enough of this perverse flower... I'm considering By Kilian Beyond Love next despite its outrageous price point: it's really a different take on it.
If you're interested, I did review the four on my blog. Just click on the link below and look into the May 2008 summary.
I did very much like the Estée Lauder as well.
besotted
Caron Tubereuse is beautiful - rich, sweet and potent.
Lady jicky
I find Goutals Tuberose very good. Its strong so be careful - on a hot day - yik. Lovely in the cooler weather.
Fleurry
I like my SOTD, Versace Blonde. It's a golden, slightly spicy tuberose. It isn't fleshy or thick.

EmmaGrace
I love Micheal Edp. I have not tried the Edt. My other fave tuberose scents are La Chasse, Creed Tubereuse Indiana, Gap Coconut Tuberose (wish this lasted longer) and AG Passion.

Emma
GalileosDaughter
Do Son. And ELPCTG. happy.gif

Gardenia Passion by Annick Goutal is a very nice tuberose. Amarige is a killer tuberose. Dior's original Poison is also a very strong and distinctive tuberose.
crazy4perfume
I agree with the others. EL Tuberose Gardenia is wonderful and classy. I have only come to appreciate tuberose the last couple years as my choice in fragrance has matured. Some others I have and love- EL Beautiful Love is very nice and has some fruity and other florals mixed in- very nice. I also have Very Michael Kors- very similar to the original but also has some black currant mixed in . I wear this with Michael Kors body cream- very lovely. Fragile by Jean Paul Gaultier is very lovely- with peppercorn, it gives it a spicy edge.
Cathleen56
Annick Goutal's Passion (not Gardenia Passion) is a very interesting tuberose -- it's thin, not buttery at all, and has oakmoss at the bottom. If you want buttery tuberose, Caron's Tubereuse can't be beat. And another sleeper, I think, is Carolina Herrera -- it's wonderful, and you hardly hear anything about it here.

I have GOT to tell you. I worked at Saks and have tried them all! There is only ONE that completely blew me out of the water!!
It is Bond #9 Saks Fifth Ave. for HER rolleyes.gif . It is a gardenia perfume, jasmin, vetiver and vanilla! The EL one doesn't come close. PLEASE do yourself a favor and go to Saks and try it out!
Elysium
My favorite tuberose is SL Tubereuse Criminelle, other tuberose heavy scents that come to my mind that have not yet been mentioned are Reminiscence Anjali and Shalini.
rasputin
WAIT!! I THOUGHT ALL OF YOU LOATHED TUBEROSE! BECAUSE AS A NOTE IT WAS INTRINSICALLY DÉCLASSÉ!

Has there been a re-appraisal in the interim? Why the about-face?
guerligirl
My favorite is Madeleine de Madeleine available at longlostperfume.com. This was a boutique/niche scent back in the late 70's. It's really beautiful, and it's still the original formulation.

Michael by Michael Kors has ALWAYS been a favorite of mine since it was released. Even to this day I get all excited/giddy when sampling it. Back in 2001 or 2002 it might have been, I actually bought a bottle for myself. A lady friend of mine wound up becoming the owner of it, not because I didn't like the fragrance anymore, but because she wanted it! haha

It's a very chic but lux fragrance, too. There's a big difference between chic and lux, and for a fragrance to be both at the same time is rather impressive.

When I became aware of the marketing verbiage for Michael, that captivated me, too.

"Creamy florals meet exotic spices, tamed by Moroccan incense, tuberose reinvented."

And after reading verbiage like that, how could one NOT want to at least try it out? HA!

Casaque
I'm not the biggest tuberose fan, but Givenchy's Organza won me over.

Malena
i adore carnal flower as well as tubérose criminelle & would also recommend you to test EL tuberose gardenia which is far from being as potent as the ones mentioend above, but very wearable IMO.

what about AG songes? it´s really lovely. though it doesn´t contain tuberose it always awokes a picture of it in my mind. it blooms very well in the heat.

notes are (according to the AG website):
frangipani, absolute of ylang-ylang, absolute of jasmine and absolute of vanilla

the EdP is much better than the EdT, fuller & rounder.

Jeffery, unlike a lot of marketing copy, the way they described it is exactly how it smells. On one hand, you could smell Bodycology White Gardenia and think it smells the same, but the warm incense, spiciness, etc., distinguishes Michael as a fine fragrance.

Actually, I don't like real burning incense, all I smell is smoke and it reminds me of people trying to cover up the smell of pot.
I used to have a friend who sewed little cones of incense into her homemade decorative pillows, and I thought that smelled nice.

Yup! I like your statement of, "Distinguishes Michael as a fine fragrance." That's exactly what I was trying to convey by saying it's a chic fragrance while at the very same time, lux, only you were able to convey it better.

I also think Michael is an EXTREMELY wearable scent. One can dress it up or dress it down.

Even beyond the olfactory aspect of Michael, the packaging is very good, too. And the ancillaries are very nicely done as is the print advertising.

Maybe I should just say I LOVE Michael! That would pretty much sum it up!

smile.gif I do love this! I have one of the travel-sized bottles Bond sends when they release new fragrances, and it's very nearly empty. I'm going to want a full size of this, definitely. The Saks is very bright and tropical on me. My 8 year old "Nose" picked out the coconut note instantly the first time I wore it.

You're my Guerlain guru, so I want to ask your opinion of Mahora/Mayotte. Is it a "must-have" tuberose? I've hesitated to try it, because I think it's discontinued? I don't want to fall head-over-heels for a discontinued fragrance...but if it's really special...(This may not be discontinued but it's not on Guerlain's website and it's not at the Guerlain counter at Neiman Marcus in Newport Beach. I think they're only US boutique is in the Waldorf Astoria? They probably don't have a shop-on-line option, laugh.gif ).

So - I was at Target today getting cat food, laundry detergent, diapers, and toilet paper, (I live the glamorous life), when I "came upon" little packages of .5 oz Michael Kors edp spray/"eau de parfum vaporisateur", for $18.00. (Yes, I was checking out the fragrances at Target. You all do that too, and you know it. wink.gif ) Of course, I bought a little bottle of MK!

I remember MK edp, from when I tried it in the past, as being full of heady tuberose and incense. I'm wearing the Michael Kors I purchased today, and it smells exactly like Citronella! Seriously, not a single note even resembles incense here, and the scent I associate with tuberose just isn't here either. This Michael Kors smells like the liquid citronella I pour in my tiki torches to keep mosquitoes away when we're in the spa. I have two questions: 1. Has the edp been reformulated? 2. What the heck is Michael Kors perfume doing at Target (and Kohls)?

I guess I have three questions. 3. Do companies make batches of their fragrances with different ingredients in order to sell them in mass quantities (like, in .5 oz bottles in bullet-proof packaging hanging off a metal post stuck in a hole in a wall)?

The box says the fragrance is "distributed by EA Frangrances Co, New York, NY". I don't know if this edp edition of Michael is exclusive to this distributor, or what, but this fragrance is NOT the MK I knew a few years ago. I'm sure of it, and my family has always told me I have the nose of a bloodhound.

I was at Kohls yesterday evening (remember, the glamorous life) and I was in a hurry, but I still had time to sniff Dianoche. (Yes, I check out the fragrances at Kohls, too. blush.gif ) I want to revisit Dianoche, which is a fragrance by Daisy Fuentes that's really cute. It's two bottles that clip together and one of the fragrances is for "day" and one is for "night". As I said, I was in a hurry, but I think the one I sniffed was "day". And it was a bright, orange blossomy tuberose! It reminded me of something...at first I thought Narcisse Noir, but I must be mistaken...but I can't wait to go back to Kohls to investigate this fragrance again. I think I might really enjoy it. It didn't seem like a run-of-the-mill Celebrity scent to me...but, I was in a hurry, with tuberose on the brain.

I ordered samples/decants of nearly every scent recommended in this thread and I cannot wait to try them all!

Rasputin, I love tuberose, always have.

Some of the recommended scents I have not smelled and I'm sure they're lovely. The one I have always liked the best is Annick Goutal Tubéreuse. However, I believe it's almost impossible to get today and exorbitantly expensive, more expensive than the other Goutal lines--or so I was told by the SA who said they couldn't get it. As mentioned above by a few people, Goutal's Passion is a tuberose blend. And Gardénia Passion smells more like tuberose than gardenia to me. In fact I once wore it to a wedding and someone came up to me and said, "Ahhh...tuberose" and proceeded to expound on the tuberose blossoms they had smelled when they lived in Hawaii.

Mayotte is in the Les Parisiennes line, the price list I got from Guerlain Paris this April is definitely including it. I personally do not like it very much, too sweet and too much undefined white flowery IMO.

Oh, why not... I'll give it a rub up my legs once or twice. As I recall, it looked like a deodorant stick, but was for to be used on women's legs for shine with a touch of the Michael fragrance.

Would they do a remake of the song, "She's got legs" into "HE'S got legs," if I used it? ;-)

No about-face here, either ... tuberose has always been my narcotic of choice. smile.gif

I have the Goutal Tubereuse, but I'm not crazy about that slight rubber/gasoline note in it -- it's similar to what I smelled more prominently in Vanille Exquise, which was total Eau de Pep Boys on me.

My very favorite is DSH Tubereuse, from Dawn's New Creations line. It is a softer, "rounder" tuberose than many, strong and a little sweet. Here are the notes:

Top notes: Citron Accord, Mimosa
Middle notes: Tuberosa, Tuberose Absolute
Base notes: French Beeswax, Heliotrope, Himalayan Cedar, Tamil Nadu Sandalwood
nubka
Ava Luxe Tuberose Diabolique

Enough said...

I'm wearing this same Michael edp today...but it doesn't smell as much like citronella. I must have been having a really bad chemistry day yesterday. But I maintain my suspicion that this fragrance has been altered from its original state. It doesn't really have much sillage, the lasting power is minimal, and it's a sweet floral without a hint of incense. I'm going to Nordstrom soon to investigate the Michael they have there. I wonder if the specific formulation has to do with how its marketed...

HAHA!!

So, if I slather some of the Michael leg shine onto my legs will I suddenly have "nice stems" to show off when I am wearing shorts?

I think not, but at least I'd smell good!!

Jeffery, your legs are very attractive, but to get the full effect of the "Leg Shine", you'd better shave first! LOL

I tried lots of tubereuse based samples, and I mean lots, and the only one I really loved, adored and bought was SL Tubereuse Criminelle. I would bathe in this stuff if I could afford it. I love the petrolly top notes and then it develops into the most gorgeous sexy fragrance.
HoneyThief
Question: is Chloe Narcisse a tuberose scent? I am re-trying a sample that I hated on the spot when I first received it about two years ago, and I still hate it. It has the same warm-but-repellent rotten note that I got from Fracas, and I know that's tuberose.
HoneyThief
Just answered my own question by having the brainwave of checking the Narcisse notes on BaseNotes. Seems like there is no tuberose, but this one does share a couple of notes with Fracas (jasmine, sandalwood, musk, tolu balsam). I wonder is it the jasmine that is repelling me...

Anyway, carry on folks!
