Full Version: Recommendations For A Vanilla Scent

Hi,

I've been looking for a vanilla scent. I'm looking for a vanilla and/or almond scent that is comforting, has excellent longevity and is not perfumey. I'm actually really scared of heady florals, especially white florals, and I have a strong preference for natural smelling stuff...my favorite scent ever is Diptyque's Philosykos. I don't mind "foody" smelling stuff. I tried Etro Heliotrope, and it sort of turned play-doh-ish on me, which I didn't mind, but I want to try other scents as well. I dislike CSP products, to me, they all seem to have this overwhelming sweet, cloying quality. So, what do you think? Longevity is a very important factor for me, I'd like to wear this scent to sleep and it would be great to be able to smell it in the morning. Thank you and all suggestions are welcome!!!

I really like Watkins Vanilla but there are a TON of vanilla scents out there.

I know that others will come up with alot of great ones too.

The new Sexiest Musk is quite nice for the price, less than $10.00 at most mass merchandisers, I bought a sample of the body spray today at Walgreens and have been enjoying it. I'm not sure of the longevity yet, but it is showing good signs to me.

The web site describes it as: Sexiest Musk is a long-lasting, warm oriental fragrance that dries down to a sensual combination of amber, musk and vanilla.

So far I must agree with it.
Fleurry
Ava Luxe Love's True Bluish Light is very nice.

Notes from her website:

White Vanilla, White Amber, Milky notes, Musk

L'Aromarine Vanille is a nice plain vanilla. I recommend this too.

I also like L'Artisan Vanilia, which is a bit smoky.

Rumour has it that TIHOTA by Indult is simply the vanilla-to-end-all-vanillas. the ultimate vanilla lover's Vanilla. wub.gif

I haven't tried this one, but am longing to....

Why not get some and tell us what it's like? biggrin.gif

Bath & Body Works Fresh Vanilla
I have been putting the lotion on my neck and arms to sleep in and find it very summery and comforting.
Reiha
I adore CSP Vanille Canelle, it's not as sweet as their other vanillas. Also the LaVanilla line is pretty nice. La Maison du Vanille has some nice vanillas, too. For wearing to bed, I'm fond of Keiko Mecheri Loukoum.
Thalassophilia
Tihota smells just about identical (to me) to the discontinued L'Occitane Vanille Bourbon, if you've ever smelled that one.

I'll second the rec for Ava Luxe Love's True Bluish Light.

I've only tried it once, but I remember L'Aromarine Vanille being nice (and cheap!), in a fun deco-style bottle.
Elysium
Do try Spiritueuse Double Vanille as well, a quite unique vanilla, not the ordinary pure vanilla kind of scent.
kewart
Cristobal is a very cosy and comforting scent - lots of honey-drizzled fig
and vanilla. I also love Korres Cinnamon and Vanilla body spray and
lotion.

I highly reccomend Geisha Noir by Aroma M. It seems strong at first but it lasts FOREVER and has a fabulous classy vanilla dry down. You can try a sample of it from Luckyscent.

I will second Keiko Mercheri's Loukhoum, or as something very similar but a little more smoky, Sweet Oriental Dream by Montale.

Addict by Dior is a very nice, very vanilla-y fragrance.

Also, you must try Anne Pliska. There is a lot of amber in there, and orange and geranium in the top notes, but it is truly a vanilla creamsicle of a fragrance, and again, smells like a classic. And lasts. Mmmm.
Sanne
Artisan Parfumeur's Jour de Fête? Warm, cosy, soft, creamy.
EmmaGrace
My suggestions are Boucheron Trouble (cozy), L'Artisan Vanille (smokey), Lavanilla Vanilla Coconut (a bit sweet though) and AG Vanille Exsquise (very comfortable and easy to wear).

I am not usually one for drugstore scents but the original Coty Dark Vanilla (NOT the new one on the shelves currently but the 5-8 year old one in the dusty Eckert Drug store bottle at Big Lots) is to DIE for. This vanilla has a depth and breadth that clearly whispers niche.
I repeat ... do not buy the new stuff as it is pure swill...but the old...OMG marvelous.

Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille might work -- you'll definitely be able to smell it in the morning. smile.gif

I am finding Bvlgari Black is a very comforting vanilla if applied in just the smallest amounts. It is deep and warm to my nose.

I highly recommend Vanilia by L'Artisan. It is a classic vanilla, but not too sugary (which is my biggest complaint about most vanillas - thay make my teeth hurt...). Here's the description from LuckyScent:

"A magnificent vanilla. This L'artisan classic blends the vanilla flower with the more familiar bean and adds a hint of amber to create a gloriously rich fragrance with warmth and depth. Sophisticated, slightly spicy, and not at all sugary. Very different from any other vanilla scent we have ever encountered. Gorgeous and complex."

Dior Addict, YSL Cinema, I think they are modern classics. Trouble is also very nice.

How could we forget Shalimar?

dawnkana
Cheap - Blue Sugar

Expensive - M. Micallef Note Vanillee

And I second Smelka on the YSL Cinema and Dior Addict.

My vanilla comfort scent is Cuir Beluga by Guerlain. I also quite like the La Maison de la Vanille line.
Elodie
Casmir by Chopard
Valnum
I recommend you to try these:

- Coty Vanilla Fields (vanilla, cedarwood, mimosa, jasmine)
- Annick Goutal Vanille Exquise (vanilla, almond, benzoin, white musk, sandalwood, gaïac wood)
- Thierry Mugler Innocent (notes of fruits and almonds)
Kas24
Apart from some of the beautiful vanillas already mentioned, I would have to add:
Profumum Dulcis in Fundo and
TF Tobacco Vanille
lillie

Dior Addict (highly recommended!)
Innocent
Shalimar
Casmir
Vanille Exquise

Adding:

7.15 am in Bali by Kenzo (tropical orchid vanilla)
Amour by Kenzo (powdery-rice-vanilla)
Vanille by Crabtree and Evelyn if you can get still some
TBS Vanilla Oil/body lotion is even better
TBS Amorito (chocolate-vanilla)
L by Lolita Lempicka (salty, woody)
Loulou (tiare-musk-vanilla)

Hi lmatchgrl.... could you describe the older bottle of Coty's Dark Vanilla and maybe their body lotion tube by way of colour or ? I am not familiar with the Eckert Drug Store bottle here...

I would love to use a nice vanilla for sleep as well. Currently I wear Shalimar, but of course it is pretty expensive a habit and perhaps the Coty one above may just be fine for me ?!
TIA,
Merrymusk

I completely forgot another two- Initial by Boucheron one of my favorites, I use quite often and Immense by Scherrer, I never owned Immense , only tried it - it was very rich and very, very sweet, I was not sure about it , I wonder if anyone tried it.
Noelle
My votes are for Cristobal and Organza Indecence.

Vanille Canelle is definitely a comfort scent for me. It can be worn all year but it makes my winter top ten, definitely. I wear it sometimes on summer nights.

This is the only one from the Comptoir Sud Pacifique brand that I have tried but I would love to try the others.

Hi Merrymusk, The bottles I bought were directly from Big Lots. Eckert Drug Store went out of business and Big Lots bought all of their merchandise. These were 1/2 oz squat little spray bottles with cream and white colored box. The original price was something like $19.00. But Big Lots has everything drastically reduced so you'll pay $5.00 or less. The juice is medium coffee brown.

I checked out Coty's modern version of the current "Dark Vanilla" at Meijers and it smells horrible.
...Cheap and plastic like UGH! The bottle is virtually identical too (so it's hard to tell the difference). The old stock at Big Lots is the only way I know to get the original real McCoy.
And I swear to you...the stuff is worth it's weight in gold. The perfectly balanced depths evolve for hours and hours. I can't stop sniffing myself when I am wearing this. A niche-like rare gem. I promise. smile.gif

If you don't like CSP products there is one vanilla that has not been mentioned here yet: Molinard Vanille Marine. It is one of my bedtime fragrances. Other Molinard Vanillas I havent tried yet, but give them a sniff if you get a chance!

Merrymusk, This is what the bottle looks like.

L'Aromarine Vanille is a good choice if you are looking for something inexpensive. It doesn't have an artificial or chemical smell and, to me, smells like nougat candy. It is sweet and tenacious!

I also love L'Artisan Vanilia - it's my favorite vanilla fragrance!

Max Mara
Sweet and vanilla citrusy, reminds me of Betsey Johnson and Hilary Duff With Love.
