I had a total soft spot for her. I was unaware that she was suffering from dementia.

Oh poor thing, she was really having it bad for the last couple of years. This is sad but at least she's out of the misery which is Alzheimer's.
She will be missed.
RIP, dear

What I think is interesting is that Bea Arthur, who played Estelle Getty's daughter, is two years older. It's amazing the things makeup can do!
I will miss Estelle Getty too. What a sweetheart.

The Golden Girls has always been my favorite American sitcom. Bye, Bye, Sophia.

Very sad indeed. Rue McClanahan was intereviewed last year and was asked about Estelle Getty's medical condition - she broke down and cried that Estelle had no memory whatsoever of the show or any of the castmates.

"Picture this! A beautiful young girl from Sicily...picking her teeth with a stick of linguini...".
Peace to you Estelle, you made me laugh.

That's too bad. Estelle didn't really look that old when on the Golden Girls........they used make up to make her look older. God Forbid!

Oh, I'm so sorry. The Golden Girls is a big favorite chez DeMeo. My daughter turned every freshman on her floor into GG groupies. Farewell, Estelle.

After carrying a "Mom" shoulder strap handbag most of my adult life, I now own a lovely purse - with short handles. I have had the worst time getting comfortable carrying the thing. So when I go visit my mom, I walk holding this purse over my forearm, arm elevated and slightly bent at the elbow, and my mom says, "you carry that thing like the old lady on Golden Girls", LOL! Well, guess I do!
Yeah, Estelle Getty was wonderful in GG, as was the show. Her one-liners to Bea Arthur were hilarious. I don't know of anyone who didn't love that show, men or women. I recall Betty White on "Ellen" saying she gets fan letters, to this day, from people all over the world. "Why people in Pakistan are interested in a show about old ladies is a mystery to me!"
