Too many doughnuts in this town and not enough proper pastry ( for my liking anyhoo) , so without further ado I think its time to show our love for the tart.

I shall be paying homage to the top three that rock my world and invite you all to do the same with pics , poetry , love songs or recipes ....

First up is the pastel de nata the brown bits on top are the best , compulsory in fact

The butter tart, Canada's own contribution to gooey goodness in a pastr shell , I might get deported for saying this but I prefer nuts or chocolate chips to the traditional raisin variety.

And last but certainly not least , the classic lemon tart with a dollop of whipped cream and nothing else

my biggest tart hankering at the moment is to make dreamsicle tarts , think I might tackle them tomorrow

If I could only have one pastry for the rest of my life, it would be a lemon tart. If a new French bakery opens up, it's the first thing I order to check if it's a serious establishment. It's like the Mozart of pastries. You can play the most elegant and hair-raising Totentanz or Gaspard de la Nuit, but if your Mozart playing is lame, who cares? In that sense the lemon tart is more difficult than a Napoleon or a dacquoise. The two so-called best French pastry stores in NYC can't make a proper one.

Also, a strawberry tart made with delicious, in season strawberries and real custard is hard to beat.

Mrs v, I'll go along with the lemon tart only make mine with merangue!

I also like those miniature French custard tarts they serve in restaurants. They usually have fruit on top such as strawberry, kiwi or my favourite, currants.

I had a lovely treacle tart when I was in England. I prefer tarts because, if they were pie sized, I'd eat the whole bloody thing!

Here's another classic - Bakewell Tart

Lot of interesting recipes on that UK site.

I would like to give this tart more love , but , and this is a big but , the berries must be in season as you say and the custard has to be proper honest custard , not vanilla puddin imposter .... strawberry tarts need to be treated with respect and the use of evil stuff is an insult.

French tarts are the best! (Take that whatever way you will). I'm a big fan of savoury tarts and do a mean roquefort et noix one, if I say so myself.

Oh Fiordigli, you must share the recipe for that roquefort and noix tart, I love savoury tarts!

I also love sweet tarts - BF's favorite is the butter tart with raisins and pecans, I am partial to fruit tarts with creme patissiere. I have a million tart pans of all different sizes and love making & eating tarts!!

Oh, I still have it. And it shall return. In due time.

The current quote is coming from a semi-ironic moment.

Roquefort and noix tart sounds amazing. I would bake those and I don't bake.

Love butter tarts. My mother always enlisted me to help with the non-meat mincemeat tarts at Christmas. Very spicy and aromatic.

I love all sorts of tarts, but my vote has to go to a custard tart made with PROPER custard, yet these are so hard to find...Or a custard slice with flaky pastry and sticky icing on top....
