Maybe it will be fun. Let's try. I'll start by naming a random song and then someone responds with the fragrance that they think sort of.. feels right for that tune. Then, they get to suggest the next song. (Oh, and if you give a goof answer, you need to include a real one as well. No cracking wise just to name the next song, cheaters) LOL

The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face by Roberta Flack

Tender, tender tune..dated, of course..big afro...but some would say timeless...how say you?
Thomas
I have nothing as well. sad.gif
sharilstuff
Well, you know...I think that tune is supposed to be hopeful...about enduring love, maybe...but it always feels profoundly sad to me, or at least melancholy. Maybe it's because it's sort of slow and drawn out?

I would think Apres L'Ondee, with the sad, wet violets. But I want to know what others think.

Did I start with something too hard? OK - try Rock Lobster by the B-52s.

The best I have is Tommy Bahama Set Sail St. Bart's, layered with some Herradura Anejo (or Frank's Hot Sauce). Jarring and kooky, and probably painful if you overindulge.

So, how about Almost Blue? Either the Elvis Costello version, or Diana Krall's. And no mentioning Apres L'Ondee.

Hmmm, for Rock Lobster, I might have offered up Parfums de Nicolai Cococabana, but wait -- I have to find something for Almost Blue. I need to look it up on my iTunes since I don't know the song.

*pulls up iTunes*

Oh. That's a beautiful song! Something lovely and yet slightly brittle needs to go with it, like maybe Chanel Bois des Iles. Equistrius by Parfums d'Empire has a little bit of a sad/sweet quality that might work, too. I think it's the violets.

What perfume would go with Blondie's "Heart of Glass" . . . ? wub.gif
Teddius
I would pair up Guerlain l'Instant with Blondie. A little synthetic...but with a groove and a beautiful voice...

OK - how about "Heart of Gold" by Neil Young?

Teddius
sharilstuff
Oh, Heart Of Gold is something wonderful. Golden and hopeful and yet kind of rustic...like the jangly guitar sound in the song. Let's see..

What smells like the sun starting to set on a warm day? Dusty...warm...relaxing... Etra or Bois de Paradis, maybe?

Thomas
..... (stage whisper).... Sharil, a song?
sharilstuff
Oh, sorry...got all turned around trying to think of the scent.

Heart of Glass is a tuberose scent, BTW.

My song shall be: Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics. hee hee

Synthetic and ethereal - CDG 2 Man

Okay, seeing that I'm in the throes of an Abba withdrawal, how about Dancing Queen?
NathanB
I think I'll answer to Teddius and let someone else do the Eurythmics number.

BTW, Thomas? The stage whisper? Classic.

Teddius: Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" -- I love that song; it has such a casual, effortless feel to it even though it's not "pop" in the traditional bubbly sense. I'm thinking L'Artisan Dzing! with its mown hay, musk and sunny meadows quality. Vero Profumo's Onda wouldn't be a bad choice, either -- bright and glittering and bottom-loaded with skin musk. It has a wistful, nostalgic element that goes well with Neil Young's music.

Okay, now someone has to answer Sharil's Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams" challenge! Oh wait -- Thomas already did . . . Abba, Dancing Queen, you know the drill.
mrs veneering
Dancing Queen , upbeat and fun , very catchy and almost inoffensive ..... Lovely SJP.

now , wrap your heads around Strangelove by Depeche Mode

Industrial, cool, and rather Bauhaus. Sounds a bit like Bandit. (edt) Maybe CDG Garage, but I'm going with Bandit.

...now how about a straight-up rocker - U2's Vertigo.
Beatlesgirl
Hmm U2's Vertigo, I think ava luxe's carnation. Its spicy bright and incensy all at once

My song, happiness is a warm gun
kewart
That's a strange one for sure! How about Lush Karma?

My song is "Your Song " by Elton John.
lillie
Hmmm... watery... let's say L'Eau par Kenzo?

Please talk to me about the scent of the song
"China Girl" by David Bowie.

It's almost too easy to say China White by Nasomatto, but it actually seems to fit both the "strength in fragility" theme of the girl in the lyrics, as well as the drugs-n-sex persona of David Bowie.

I feel all tragic like a marlon brando
When I look at my china girl
I could pretend that nothing really meant too much
When I look at my china girl

Another one might be Dior Dune -- Luca Turin had this to say about Dune: "It is hard to pin down what makes Dune so unsmiling from top to bottom: it's as if every perfumery accord had become a Ligeti cluster chord, drained of life, flesh-toned in the creepy way of artificial limbs, not real ones. Marvelous."

You shouldnt mess with me
Ill ruin everything you are
Ill give you television
Ill give you eyes of blue
Ill give you men who want to rule the world

I hope that either one of those two works for you.

Who's up for taking a swing at "Hotel California" by the Eagles?

Fiordiligi
OK Nathan, how about Fresh Cannabis Rose?

What about Jackson Browne's Shape of a Heart? (Yes I am giving my age away, thank you).
lillie
Shalimar maybe?

What about "Black No.1" by Type 0 Negative? blush.gif
éprise de flacons
"Her perfume smells like burning leaves." (from the lyrics) Which perfume is that?

BURNING LEAVES by CB I hate perfume.

OK!
éprise de flacons
Song to suggest a perfume for: Pulp - Common People

(apologies that this ended up in two posts! I did one right on the heels
of the other and the old board used to amalgamate them, which is what
I thought would happen. From other post, for Black no1:
Burning Leaves by CB I hate perfume.)

The narrator of the song is wearing a splash from a bottle of Drakkar Noir that his dad left in the bathroom ages ago when he split from the household. The Greek girl who's slumming with him, the St. Martin's College graduate, is wearing Vivienne Westwood Boudoir.

Suggest the perfume soundtrack for:

"The Ladies who Lunch" by Stephen Sondheim

Just guessing from the title (have no access to iTunes at the oficina). I would say 24, Faubourg.

Back to Abba. I am back on the Mamma Mia! kick and now have "Lay your Love on Me" spinning though my head. Abba, or the soundtrack, or the Pet Shop Boys version, not that anyone's taken it in a different direction or anything...

Well, the song seems grown-up and sexy at first, and the music for the verses has a slight edge to it, but on closer examination it comes across as emotionally under-developed:

I wasnt jealous before we met
Now every woman I see is a potential threat
And Im possessive, it isnt nice . . .

I still dont know what youve done with me
A grown-up woman should never fall so easily
I feel a kind of fear
When I dont have you near
Unsatisfied, I skip my pride
I beg you dear......

Dont go wasting your emotion
Lay all your love on me

So I'd suggest a scent that's naive rather than womanly -- Vera Wang Princess.

Next up: "Calling Occupants (of Interplanetary Craft)" by the Carpenters. happy.gif

I thought it was by Klaatu , I hate to be obvious but the very first thing that jumped into this small small mind was Mugler's Alien.

'Close to you' by the Carpenters?

Windsong.

Hmm, a song.... "William it was really nothing" by the Smiths. I mean, besides the smell of sweaty palms, old cardigans, and the mustiness of old books.

Oh oh oh! The Smiths! Morrissey! And that's a great Smith's song . . . "Would you like to marry me ? And if you like you can buy the ring. I don't dream about anyone -- except myself!"

I'll say Skarb by Humiecki & Graef; described as a perfume that's meant to embody "how men cry" -- it's a little sweet, a little bitter, a little spicy, a little cold; in other words, frustratingly indecisive. tongue.gif

I'm putting up Bette Midler's cover version of the Rolling Stones' "Beast of Burden" -- give us a scent!

Video Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4R9FiKE0Tk
mrs veneering
For Bette Midler's version of Beast of Burden I suggest L'air de rien ( Miller Harris).

Dead Souls , New Order or NIN , pretty much the same treatment....
éprise de flacons
Mrs Veneering, I'm torn between Etro Messe de Minuit and spending the rest of the morning looking for the perfect BPAL. So I'll say Iris Silver Mist, for the cool rooty earthy intangible. Thank you - didn't know NIN did a version.

Song: Blue Suede Shoes

sharilstuff
The rich fullness of Elvis's voice, but still kicky and not too serious for Blue Suede Shoes: Deci Dela...or Libertine, both fruity chypres.

Crazy. Patsy Cline.

This is a stretch, but before I say anything - when I hear Crazy, I think of Willie Nelson, and that's whose voice I hear singing. So that said, I'd choose YSL Rive Gauche pour Homme. A wistful, muted sort of melancholy.

And for our next song, I give to you...well...hmmm. Trying to find a good one here...Three Dog Night: Mama Told Me not to Come!
Teddius
Cumming by Alan Cumming!

OK, let's continue with Classic Rock for $200, Alex!

Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison.

Teddius
sharilstuff
Ormonde Woman is a brown-eyed wood nymph, but the girl-next-door quality he seems to convey is probably Musc de Java by Les Nereides...berries, sage, hay...

Working Class Hero. John Lennon.

Thankfully I've heard this one more than a few times. Bearded and long-haired Lennon, strumming an acoustic guitar, singing in a lilting way about a cruel world. Alexander McQueen's Kingdom - rose and cumin.

Next song...

Hmmm - How about Johnny Cash, Folsom Prison Blues.
Fiordiligi
Brut. That was a quick and easy one. I just LOVE that song, even though it is totally outrageous.

And now for something completely different: Carly Simon You're So Vain?
sharilstuff
MPG Le Male? Or Fracas.

Rehab. Amy Winehouse
dewey eyed
Oooh boy. Costume National Scent Intense. Covers up the tobacco, sweat and any other stanks she's got going on.

What goes with 'Blue Monday' by New Order?

l'huere blue

what would you pick for "fever"
Teddius
Passage d'Enfer by l'Artisan. Hot, baby! Hot!

What goes with Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band?

Teddius
Fiordiligi
I think this has to be Etro Patchouly! (Unfortunately, Biba never did a scent otherwise that would have been spot-on).

Next: California Girls by the Beach Boys, as suggested by Beach Boy fan Mr Fiordiligi.

Why, EL Bronze Goddess!

How about The Clash: Rock the Casbah

Smooth, hypnotic, sophisticated -- Jalaine Vetiver will do nicely, thank you.

"Only You" by Yazoo (aka Yaz) with Alison Moyet, who had one of the nicest voices in 80's pop music.

I think Mitsouko for Alison Moyet, Nathan.

Okay, back to your "Mrs. Robinson" by Simon & Garfunkel . . .
sharilstuff
Mmm...I love that Yaz song as well... Situation as well ..

Let's see. Mrs Robinson is just Estee Lauder to me, somehow. Aliage.
