I had the chance to try out the new Creed Love in Black today.

On first spritzing it on, I thought how wonderful it was with a fabulous violet note that seemed to last for quite a while and didn't vanish at the first hint of a breeze.

Unfortunately, the magic didn't last. When it reached the drydown, it was reduced to an oleaginous fruit salad stew that to me, doesn't smell appealing at all.

The advertising card for it, is, as usual, full of the Creed hyperbole. According to the card it follows on from Love in White which they say, is their most successful fragrance to date and has got wide critical acclaim. Funny, I always thought they said that GIT was their most successful. What about all the others that have survived from the 19C, weren't they successful?

The notes list is over the top, sensual white violets and woody Virginian Cedar with a heart of powdery Florentine iris and spicy cloves (I missed them) on a delicious base of Bourgogne blackcurrant (does that smell different from everyday blackcurrant, I ask myself?) rose and violets.

Violets in the top and base notes, wonder how they do that?

Over here it is far from cheap, £65 for the 30ml and a whopping £115 for the 75ml. My wallet is staying firmly closed.

I thought it smelled like violets and tar. Tar as in pavement. I kinda liked it. And I don't like Creed. Hated LiW.

I have a sample vial. It starts as a very sweet violet, then turns to a perfumey powdery cedar. But I do have to say I was pleasantly surprised by it, I was expecting the usual Creed screechiness to emerge but it didn't. It's pleasant enough.

It's the fruity dry down that I don't like. I wasn't sure whether I should wear it, or put it on my toast.

I'll solve the entire mystery, PB-
And put you on my toast, sweet seraph. wink.gif

This is one where the vial don't do it; a spray, on skin, is more indicative- like the PG's, you know ?
I decided that I wasn't interested- but I tried it anyway.

It really does something else on my skin.
Enough to make grown men sigh, apparently...

One of the few Creeds I'll wear, a lot.
Believe me-
I'm as surprised as anyone. ohmy.gif

Is this one in the States now? The notes sound interesting.

I will be on your toast anytime chaya my sweet. Just listening to your voice makes me sigh, so if you smell gorgeous as well, you can put me on your crumpets. It must be my skin chemistry that changes the base.

laugh.gif There's something about POL reviews that you don't get from other sources! Marvelous, PB!

I haven't smelled LIB but if I were into Creed and I liked it I would probably have to buy LIB and Love in White to satisfy my completist tendencies--and I can't even stand LIW!

I tried this yesterday. At first, I got alot of the iris/orris note that I love. But the drydown was very sweet, and I can understand how someone might get a jamlike impression from this.

My first impulse was to buy this "just because". I didn't and was glad (later) that I had restrained myself.

I don't know if Jackie O would have worn this fragrance. However, I would definitely retry.
Prince Barry
I'm sure that if Jackie O was around, Creed would have sent her a free bottle and then say in their promotional stuff (after she had died of course), that she wore their fragrances.

Oh dear, why am I so cynical?

My thoughts are just as jaded. Why does Creed wait until a person is dead before they use them as a "muse" for a fragrance?
