Full Version: How I Earned My First Perfume Compliment From A Complete Stranger!

I was in Birmingham U.K. yesterday with hubbie and we wandered into House of Fraser,
where he wanted to look at gadgets for the kitchen (ho hum), so I felt drawn towards the
perfume department (as you do!)
Imagine my delight when I happened upon a host of Serge Lutens testers!! I didn't know
they were available over here. I spritzed A la Nuit on one wrist (breathtakingly beautiful jasmin)
and Douce Amere on the other ( very gorgeous also, in a creamy, gourmandy way.)
I then went and tried out the new Gucci by Gucci and finished with a spritz of Guerlain's Figue-Iris.
The latter two paled in comparison to the two Lutens.
Having reached sensory saturation point, I headed off to the fashion dept. to check out the sale
in Kaliko. A young sales assistant came over to see if I needed any help and said "Wow, you smell
so good. What perfume are you wearing!" I was so bowled over by my FIRST EVER compliment
from a complete stranger that I mumbled something about it being a mixture of several testers.
"Well whatever it is, you smell amazing ," she replied.
Here's the thing:- if you spray on enough beautiful perfumes, one day someone is going to notice
your scent. Or maybe the combination of all those four really does it for me. What could I call it?
Douce- Amere Figue-Iris Gucci A La Nuit. (or DAFIGALN for short!!)
Anyway, I just had to share the experience with someone who understands..... biggrin.gif

Furiously scribbling down recipe for perfume cocktail! laugh.gif Kewart, congrats on the compliment! I wonder if it was a particular one that stood out to the complimenter or a mixture of all of them. Guess we will never know--but I'll bet you sure did smell good!

Darn it! Two weeks ago, when I was in the UK, I walked by House of Fraser in Newcastle's Metro Centre mall and thought about going in, but changed my mind because, for some reason, I think of it as a "dowdy" type of shop. Now I know better! Besides, my boyfriend was more interested in taking me to Ann Summers...

Oooh, compliments from strangers are always nice.

Hi Kewart !
Well, I see no other option. Haven't we determined that you and I are scent twins? -- therefore, I feel that I am specially qualified to give you advice [grin]. You simply must return to the shop for additional spritzes so that you can decide which of these scents "we" need to add to our collection. Right? Because of course, if you like a scent, I will surely like it also -- ergo, if you smell amazing wearing "Douce- Amere Figue-Iris Gucci A La Nuit. (or DAFIGALN for short!!)", then I will, too! biggrin.gif

Please let us know if you do return for another purely educational trip to that store? Enquiring minds want to know.
Happy Sniffing

Congratualtions! Were the testers for sale? Just want to know....
kewart
Sorry to confuse you Tjen! The bottles for testing were also available to buy from the
shelf underneath. I will be in France next month and definitely intend to resniff DA and
ALN in Sephora, where they will no doubt be cheaper than over here.
I will let my "scent twin" know the result after Sept. 11th!!!!

Kewart beware the Euro! I am not sure that you will find anything to be cheaper in France this year; I know my Guerlains are more expensive in Paris now than they are in the UK because of the exchange rate.

You did exceptionally well to get comments on how lovely you smelled because as we know, here in the UK people aren't known for commenting on personal matters like this!

Kewart my love, I am sure that you smell gorgeous all of the time. The SL export line has been available over here now for about 12 years.

PerfumeMe, not every House of Fraser stocks the SL line, so they might not have had it in Newcastle. My local HoF doesn't stock them, but my local Harvey Nicks does. The HoF in Manchester has the full export line.
