I have been looking for a blouse with the following specifications literally for years. Years. No lie.

~button down
~fitted
~3/4 sleeve
~fabric has to stretch
~size 14 or XL or a generous L

along these lines here:

I want it in black with a white or gray pinstripe. But the blouse should be primarily black.

I want that precise blouse, and I cannot find it anywhere. Am I kidding myself? It sounds like a simple piece of basic clothing.

Can anyone help?

I think it's a Liz Claiborne. I had some just like that in a bunch of colors that I wore to work. Loved the 3/4 sleeve. Very comfy.

Well, everyone from Liz to Banana Republic to Kohl's to Sears makes blouses like this. I own several. But finding black with white pinstripe has proven impossible. Anyone?

Thanks, FB, that's one of the closest I've seen. I may order that if nothing else turns up. I'm still holding out hope that a plain pinstripe one exists...... huh.gif

You're welcome. I'll keep searching to see if I can find one. I know what it feels like to have something in mind and not be able to find it!

...I was going to throw this out there: get a men's shirt cut down. But...I think you'd have a similarly tough time finding a men's shirt in black that was of good enough quality to warrant the tailoring charges (re-hem, darts, cutting the sleeves).

good luck!

Have one made. Think of all the time you'll save.

I nearly threw that out there but two obstacles: 1) cost, and 2) fabrics. I don't recall seeing black/white pins in my tailor's fabric books.

It isn't prohibitively expensive and would be worth it - a perfectly fitted blouse is a pleasure.
altodiva
And stretchy fabric makes it even harder. Grrrr.
altodiva
Sorry, Andy-- I was posting at the same time you were.

I considered getting a men's shirt cut down, but they don't generally come in spandex-y cotton.

I agree! You'd get EXACTLY what ya want and pick the fabric.

Trust Glo.

This elegant fabric shop is just around the corner from me. If they don't have your dream material, they can advise you on how to find it: Waechter's Silks

I have had several things made by a tailor I trust to do alterations. He can't be the only one in the world. It costs about $50-60 to have him make something from a pattern or example. Go for it, Diva! Live up to your name. :-)

I was going to say the same thing. If you have something in your mind and you know exactly what you want, you are not going to find it. The simpler the object of your desire is, the harder it is to find. This law is related to the Murphy's Law. cool.gif

I have tried to find a yellow T-shirt with nothing printed on it. Nope. I tried to find a white book shelf, no fancy design. Impossible. Et cetera, ad infinitum.

I don't guess this one would work?

Alto, a few years back, when three-quarter sleeves became so popular, along with that style of blouse, I found one exactly as you're describing (black with sort of grey pinstripes), for my mother, in JC Penney's. It was one of their brands, and she still has it, to this day -- size 14.
I just had a quick look on their site...and there are none like that.
All I can say...is to follow the advice Lady Jicky supplied. Give up on finding one...and it will be everywhere!

Check this out. It looks like the right fabric.  Similar blouse.   Maybe you can get something made to measure if they have more of that fabric.

I vote for have someone make it. It might be easier to find the fabric, than the exact shirt.

But, thanks Diva! ohmy.gif While searching for you, I bought 3 blouses for myself. tongue.gif
