Full Version: Northwest Flight 768 -- Minneapolis To Detroit
Perfume of Life > A Civilized Perfume Affair > Talk About Perfume
Jeffery
Back in June I had posted a topic about a gentleman who was sitting next to me on a flight from New York to Minneapolis and the fragrance that he was wearing. See topic here.

Well, this time, the tables are turned and I'm the guilty one!!

I was connecting in Minneapolis around 10:00AM to catch my short hop to Detroit last Tuesday, August 5th.

That morning, I had to be up early for my originating flight which departed at 6:00AM. I applied two squirts of my fragrance of choice around 4:30 that morning as I remember leaving for the airport around 4:45AM. So by the time I got on the plane in Minneapolis, I already had the scent on my skin for 5 hours.

Well, boarding starts, I head down the jet bridge, and into the aircraft where I walk down the cabin to 17-A. Arriving at 17-A I had to excuse myself to a woman who was sitting in 17-B as I needed to get into my seat. She polietly stood up, I stowed my Tumi carry on under the seat in front of me, fastended my seatbelt, and pulled out my book and started to read. Just as she sat down, she started to sneeze. Then she started to cough.

Once the aircraft door was closed, and the preflight instructions were completed, the flight attendants passed through the cabin one last time as they usually do to make sure everyone had their belts fastened, seats were upright, and that luggage is properly stowed. Seeing the flight attendants come down the aisle, I leaned over in my seat and pushed my bag further under the seat to make sure it wasn't sticking out too far. Right as I started to move to do that, the woman in 17-B starts to sneeze and cough again!

At this point, I was becoming very paranoid that perhaps she was sensitive to my fragrance. In fact, I was almost certain of it. Later in the flight, as I moved again, she started to sneeze and cough. It seemed as if when I stayed still, she was fine, but if I moved, which "activated" the scent towards her, she would start.

Now for the interesting part, which we'll turn into another guessing game. The fragrance I had on that day is considered to be a very light fragrance. When I first purchased it, I actually remember being very upset with the longevity of it on my skin, but in time, I really grew to like it. The biggest hint I can give, without giving it away is that this scent is a flanker of a flanker.

The fact that I only applied two squirts of this very light fragrance to my skin and five hours later, it made a woman sitting next to me go into sneezing and coughing fits is QUITE perplexing to me!

So... what was the fragrance that made 17-B sneeze and cough?

Well, I can guess. I know that you like 212 and Escape.

Well, Jeffery, it was a Tuesday so we know it wasn't Chic. Other than that I couln't guess because I'm flanker-flanker-challenged. But I will watch to find out! I don't suppose the lady ever indicated what was making her sneeze for sure?

Oh, a flanker of a flanker.

Believe it or not, it wasn't my signature scent or a flanker of it.

The REALLY perplexing part of this particular fragrance is that it's not in eau de toilette but a COLOGNE!

In fact, because it's a cologne, they only make it one LARGE size of 5oz. for around $80.00 or so.

The fragrance is Chanel Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport! Imagine that!!!!!

The fragrance descriptive is as follows:

----------------------------------
ALLURE gets physical, with a vigorous new personality: ALLURE HOMME SPORT. A casual, lively fragrance, spiked with heightened notes of freshness and sensuality.

This season, the fresh, sensual men's fragrance gets a burst of energy from an infusion of sparkling citrus. The sporty scent, noticeably lighter now, exudes a newfound freedom, a sense of spontaneity, a non-stop vitality. 5.0 oz.
----------------------------------

Notice the verbiage of, "noticeably lighter now," too.

I've been stuck on wearing Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport for the past few weeks each day and am REALLY enjoying it. I guess the "non-stop vitality" as mentioned above really does do the trick.

My apologies to the lady in 17-B... don't blame me, blame the non-stop vitality of Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport! haha!

Jeffery, The lady could have been allergic to one of the notes in your fragrance. I have noticed that the so called clean, fresh fragrances are the worst culprits. More so then say an oriental. Or it just could be that she was getting over a cold or had allergies in general, and it had nothing to do with your fragrance.

I've been paranoid before when someone starts sneezing, coughing or sniffling when I am near them. I think it must be my fragrance that is bothering them. When I ask them if my fragrance is making them react. Most often they reply that they have allergies in general and are always sneezing regardless or they have a cold.

Jeffery, I think she just had a cold. Please feel free, if anyone starts sneezing, coughing, or heaven forbid accuses you of wearing something that causes a reaction, to invoke my name in your defense:

"Miss Ellen, of NEW YORK CITY, can tell you I always smell fabulous, I never over-apply and would never wear anything that would cause a sneeze or a cough."

Or you can quote Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw) from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: "Quit complaining! This is expensive stuff."

ROTFL, love it Ellen!

Do remember, she'd only start to sneeze and cough when I would move.
