Auntie Julia is my fave celeb chef of all time and this makes me love her more, intriguing.

I may be mistaken but I thought she spoke of this openly throughout her lifetime.
This list is the official government confirmed release I guess. Julia is one of my heros.
I lurve her.

Not sure if this went in Food or Life.

Aren't they making or planning to make a film of her life? They might have to scrap it and start all over.

Interesting. I wonder what she actually did?

I just noticed this posted under Food, so Mods please combine both threads either here or there. Thanks!

Maybe she poisoned a few Nazis with her early efforts!

Cool - yet another reason to love Julia. Recently read her book "My Life in Paris" - really great read.
A as in Apple
There was a great exhibit on Julia at the Smithsonian a couple of years ago. Her service for the OSS was mentioned, along with pictures of her in the kitchen of her apartment in Paris. She led an interesting life aside from her culinary talents.

I read about the OSS stuff in an earlier biography, too. I'm just glad she got to France!

Off topic: It's not quite as cloak and dagger, but Elizabeth David worked for the British Ministry of Information in Egypt during WWII before she started writing her books.

I read this yesterday and thought it was so cool.

How interesting! That article made me think immediately of Miss Froy in The Lady Vanishes, an intrepid and endearing character, although Julia Child must have been considerably younger than Miss Froy during WWII. I'm not surprised to learn this news. You could tell by watching Julia Child that there was a lot more going on in her mind than putting the final-touch apple in the mouth of the sucklng pig!

She cooked up a shark repellant to keep them away from the bombs underwater. The sharks were exploding them.

Absolutely!

I think many knew. Her husband, Paul, was an OSS officer and that's why she went to live in France. Apparently they recruited her, also, though I'm not sure that her contribution was much more than minimal, but we shall see.

LOVE IT!!

Other Forums I belong to are also talking about this.

But I'm kinda surprised it's just now coming up.... I knew about her OSS involvement years ago, even before she died...

It was discussed in some earlier book and on TV...
