I'm listening to Everclear- "I Will Buy You a New Life"
Cathleen56
I'm listening to Merle Haggard, the Stones, Madonna, and the soundtrack from "The Harder they Come" on my IPod. (These four come up as the most frequently-listened to albums -- great for walking fast in the city!).
Rosebud
That's a good variety, Cathleen! I used to like Merle when I was growing up because my Mom listened to him. "Long Black Limousine" and "Drank the Wine and Threw Away the Rose" are two of my faves, I think.
Contessa
Chanticleer - Sing We Christmas

I've been listening to my daughter fiddle around on her guitar. She's interested in Led Zeppelin 'Stairway to Heaven' at the moment.

I'm listening to a little gem from the 60's sung by Francois Hardy, but the title is in French and I can't remember it...

Not of this World - Petra
ForTheLoveofMando
Chet Baker's version of "Tenderly" circa 1955. Glorious...

Nubka, I loved Francoise Hardy and now you have me humming, "All Over the World" to myself. I must check her out again.

I've been listening to Will Young.

I wish I could remember the name of a man who sounds a bit like Nina Simone, because I want to hear more of him. He's overweight and camp looking and sings in a dramatic style, with a small band, I think. If any of the Brits. can think of who I mean, please let me know.

Will Young, Jill what is the cd like???In the moment I only know one song
primavera
Oh Heikke it isn't the new cd that I've been listening to unfortunately...looks good though, if "All Time Love" is anything to go by.

A friend of mine asked me to fill his new iPod with "New Wave" hits from the 1980's, and I've obliged.

While doing so, I gave these a re-listen, and was gladdened to see just how great many of these records were. The 80's were probably the last decade in which "the music mattered". Britain pretty well ruled the charts with a string of great singles, many of them one-hit wonders, although there were great contributions from Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Austria, Sweden.

Ella, Rosemary, and Frank...

My new Phil Vassar CD.
Bvlgari BLV
Listening to Horowitz Rediscovered.

Earlier today played my new Kinks CD (village Green Preservation Society!) and some other random bands,Franz Ferdinand and the Kaiser Chiefs... but at this very moment listening to Regina Spektor...

Primavera, that band you mentioned could be Anthony and the Johnsons. I agree he is an amazing singer, an extraordinarily fabulous voice, combined with very intense emotional songs.
primavera
Jo, thank you!! That's him! I've checked it out on the internet and will go to the Virgin shop and listen to some of their stuff tomorrow. :))

Well, it's a new day, a new year, and I have a Bollywood compilation turning.
Rosebud
Carbon Leaf CD "Indian Summer." I love this group, anyone else a fan?
dorthea
I have not had time to listen to music in months - seems like years, really. Well, today the silence was broken by an old recording of Die Fliedermaus. :-)
Rosebud
Oh Dorthea...so glad you are listening to something you enjoy again.
I've found music has really helped my outlook many, many times.

Yep, that's right, Rosebud -- it's called "Days of Wine and Roses," and the lines are:

"I'm paying for the days of wine and roses
A victim of the drunken life I chose
All my social friends look down their noses
'cause I kept the wine, and threw away the rose."

Great stuff. And my mom was the inspiration, too -- when I was much younger, she turned me on to Hank Williams and other great singers.

Ahh! Thanks Cathleen for posting the lyrics. I had them a bit messed up.
Now I am humming the tune as I type this. Great stuff! Moms rock!
