In attempting to get enough calcium in my diet with minimum dairy sources and enriched foods, I've encountered some unexpected calcium sources (beyond the kale / almonds that are often mentioned). I cite the following because they provide a fairly substantial portion. Please add those you have found and recommend!

amaranth - 100 grams has 153 mg of calcium (has many other minerals and is an excellent protein source)
okra - 100 grams frozen okra cooked has 96 mg of calcium

Here you go. Scroll down a little bit.

It's easy enough to make up the difference with calcium citrate, but don't forget you also need at least 1000mg of Vitamin D3.

Extremely useful chart, amjack! Thank you for posting. Interesting to go through it and hunt for the most efficient ones (in terms of fat / calories / rest of vitamin and mineral profile - that's why I'm a big fan of the okra and the not on that particular chart amaranth grain).

Excellent reminder on the vitD, PerfumeMe! Always have it around if necessary (for winter, and as a basement dweller). When I have to make up my calcium through supplements, always a blended one with D and magnesium.

Yes...a stress on the D3. If you aren't getting enough D3, then your body isn't going to retain the calcium.

You're very welcome, EDF. I'm glad you're finding it to be useful. :-)
