I called Jason at BG and I am having Courman Coquin shipped out to me unsniffed. I am feeling a little guilty as it is so expensive. I have Iris Ganache, Cruel Gardenia and Cuir Beluga which I have been very happy with and feel blessed to have them in my collection. I don't know that I should have ordered this new one but I love Gourmands and they do well on me. Has anyone had the oportunity to try these new Carnal Elixirs yet?

Here are some short and very compelling reviews on 1000fragrances:
http://1000fragrances.blogspot.com/2008/08...w-releases.htmlI don't know if Octavian smelled them in the shop (I think they won't be available until later in France), but I'll be dropping by to find out.

I have experience all the elixers. The instore date for these are 8/29. The elixers are all very sensual and all very different from the Art of Material fragrances. They certainly stand alone.
Please remember that these fragrances can be ordered and shipped free of charge from the Guerlain boutique at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Florida. I am going to try to get a schedule of National Haute Perfumery Events that are done in conjunction with stores throughout the USA with Marie Lynn Patrie, the national fragrance/beauty director who does all the Guerlain fragrance consultations.

I'm wearing Oriental Brulant right now.
At first after spraying, I get dark amber, which immediately becomes a soft orangy (clementine) and almondish skin scent. Then at the end, it is ambery and incensy.
Sheer and light always.
It's really nice.
clementine, almond, tonka beans, vanilla, amber, styrax

It's been a long time since I laughed as hard as I did at the following from The Perfume Posse. Be sure to read all of the comments.

I was just about to post Denyse's commentary which I laughed with, but she got me first.
The kind of press release they did somehow cancelled out all the excitement I had in sampling them.
WHY???

Why indeed? The $24,000 question. The whole release is ill-advised, IMO. They obviously didn't vet any of this with native English speakers. "Elixir Charnel" must make history for one of the all-time worst perfume names in this part of the world -- obviously Guerlain's execs had never heard of the term "charnel house." Dead bones and rotting corpses, anyone?
The empurpled press release is another major misstep. "Storax imparts an intensely animal quality, creating an aura as seductive as my feline form stretched out on the bed ... He has had my body, but not the most secret part of me, my ELIXIR CHARNEL. The two of us are but one: the visible and the invisible, the tangible and the intangible," etc.
Harlequin romance and the decay of death -- all yours for a mere $225!

QUOTE (Twitchly @ Aug 29 2008, 11:42 AM)

The $24,000 question
The $24,000 question is: will we teach them by
not buying?
Somehow I think some will capitulate despite the soft-core and the Black Plague bones.....
By the way this must be the first time I hear of storax described as having "an intensely animalic quality".

The comments over at the Posse were priceless... I was laughing my head off yesterday while I was reading them.
I'm more upset by the price point than the purple prose... $250 for 75ml? Gevalt.
As for the "charnel" wording, as a French speaker, even though my native language is English, it didn't even register as a "charnel house" association, but I guess I was one of the few who didn't think of that. I agree they could have made a better choice (and the translation was stilted and awkward). Considering the price, they could have at least hired Carmencanada to proof it. ;-)

What horrible copy - sounds like it was written by an idiot and then translated through Babblefish.

I am waiting for those to show up in the shops

and as well as the eau de cologne which should released in mid October by Guerlain house called
"68" for its anniversary this year. It will include 68 ingredients that Guerlain uses in their perfumes.

Carmencanada - I loved this bit "If this is an animal, it’s a little pink marzipan piggy."
I tried all three on last week and think they smell best when worn together.
