I liked the Hai Karate one. There was something so cool about Sixties advertising.

The rest of them? Bleah.

Omigod. I remember every single one of those except the Halston commercial.

"Sensual....but not too far from innocence." HAHAHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Nubka, that was fun. As an ex hand model is was fun to see the long red pointed nails of the hand model holding the Halston.....now nails are shorter and more squared or oval in advertising. smile.gif

I don't know how I managed to leave out that old well-loved warhorse, Jean Nate, so here it is:

Does anyone recall the scent YARDLEY BLACK LABEL?

For a moment, I thought the first lady in the Halston commercial was Marisa Berenson. What they're not telling you is, this was the period in Halston's life when he was constantly out-of-his-mind on coke.

Cute ads. I remember HA'I KARATE as smelling perfectly vile.

You'll notice I'd leapt, some months ago, to the defense of JONTUE. biggrin.gif

I have a confession to make!

I was wearing Jontue last night... cool.gif cool.gif

There are two ads from the seventies/eighties that really bug me.

One is :"I love only one man; I wear only one fragrance; Emeraude."
That is very poor marketing from a company that sells many, many inexpensive fragrances.

Another is:"Ladies - If you want him to be more of a man, try being more of a woman".
Something about that really bothers me. Like if he is not manly enough it is your fault.

Yeah, it kind of reminds me of a sexist Jack Jones song from the 60's, with the line: "Day after day, there are girls at the office, and men will always be men - don't send him off with your hair still in curlers..you may not see him again..." UGH!! dry.gif

Off topic, but another sexist older song: LIGHTNING STRIKES AGAIN
Whenever I hear this song on the oldies station, I want to slap this man upside the head. laugh.gif laugh.gif

Can someone tell me who "Mr. Studly" is in the Jovan Musk for Men commercial? (See below.) I can't read the signature and apparently the sound isn't working too well.

I think that's Lee Horsley, but I'm not 100% sure... cool.gif

I just checked, and it is Lee Horsley! He used to be in a TV show called Matt Houston. biggrin.gif

Wow, I hadn't thought about him or his TV show since, well, the 80's. He was a perfect icon for that era.
Catherine Fraser
Chanel 5!

the best ad IMO: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fr9sZEhpeyI

What I like best about that ad, CF, is the prices! biggrin.gif

Just looking at these commercials is a reminder of how times have changed, and how we, as a society, has lost so much (while gaining in other areas?).

I did have to laugh when Catherine Deneuve said "He gives me Chanel No.5 because..."

It reminded me of my first "love", who gave me Chanel No.5 because his father was a doctor, and had a charge account at a drug store that happened to carry Chanel. However, I didn't complain!

Wow, lucky! laugh.gif My local drugstore only carried Faberge, Prince Matchabelli, etc...

This made me laugh: Coty Wild Musk "Fear turns into fascination."
