What say you about 'the end,' appearing at the conclusion of a motion picture? Do you feel a special closure, upon reading those words? Do you miss seeing 'the end,' if those words are missing? As one who tends to like things a bit 'off,' I rather enjoy a less considerate finish. Silence, perhaps, followed by credits. What about the rest of you?

I prefer FIN.

I think that they put the 'End' at the conclusion of a film for people who are a little slower on the uptake than us so that they know....LOL

I don't know, PB . . . 'the end' at the conclusion of a film, does seem redundant. And yet during some cinema experiences, maybe not? Can't quite decide if 'the end' is altogether unnecessary. I don't need it, but my sister doesn't mind seeing those words, in particular if the film has moved her. Usually by this time, she's in tears.

Monty Python's "The Holy Grail " has the definitive opening and ending !!
Go watch it! *I insist*

I like The End and then a reprise of a list of the cast of characters. That's the old-movie style and it works for me because I always like to review who was in certain roles.

I absolutely detest today's endings with the credits that roll on for seemingly hours. They go by too fast to read them if you want to know who did what, yet they take an eternity to unroll.

P.S. Fin works for me too, donna!

The film-crew and parafernalia syndicates have wasted their years in demanding films mention everyone working on them.....LOL. ( I am joking of course ,5oaksbouquet )

Hi Helg . . . both you and rasputin have rhapsodized about the ending to that Monty Python, film . . . I promise to check it out!

When I first saw this thread, I though it was about The Doors! That's what "The End" always makes me think of.

"Fin" works great for me, too...

I'm with your sister and Fiveoaks about "The End"....I like it, almost always.

What I also like, is hearing the Overture music; nice to see the classic film channels allowing the music to play. Miss the movie palaces of days gone by; it is so nice to see the occasional one rescued, or spared from the wrecking ball. Los Angeles has a bevy of impressive movie houses. Of course, I used to live right behind Grauman's Chinese!

Too often these days there is no end. You have to sit through the credits and then you see outtakes.

with some movies like the Matrix it is a good idea otherwise I would have no idea when it was over and it was time to go home.

To me, it's kinda like telling someone - "It's Over. Go Home Now!"
