I did a search and couldn't find where this had been discussed. So - has anyone seen both? A critic really panned it but I usually don't agree with them anyway. I'm really look forward to seeing it and hope I'm not disappointed since I saw the Broadway production as well (although not with Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick).

Well, I saw the original movie with Zero Mostel and Gene Wilder. I have to tell you that it was the funniest movie I ever saw in my life. I couldn't stop laughing and my sides and stomach started to hurt with muscle spasms but still I couldn't stop. I had to get up and leave the room several times to get the laughing to cease. What's worse is I was laughing against my will because mentally I resisted the joking about WWII but it was so hilarious the humour overcame my principles! Mel Brooks is a genius! That film has got to be such a hard act to follow and as a result, I hesitate to see a newer version. Those who do, I hope you will tell us about it.

Oh - I haven't seen that one even though I knew this was a remake. May have to check that one out after I see the new one. (No way it will be as good!)

I read another article where Mel Brooks was talking about the critic. He said something to the effect that instead of sending the guy an e-mail, he'd send him a signed note. That way when the "critic" was old and broke, he'd have something to sell for food and rent. - Apparently, it didn't bother Mr. Brooks (and why should it?)

Mr. Brooks is crying all the way to the bank, as they say, pj... and he's one person I believe deserves every buck he gets!

Another thing I didn't want to laugh about is they made fun of elderly ladies. But there too I couldn't help myself!

We saw this with some of our board members while at a meeting in NYC. During the break, I asked someone if one of the couples was offended because of lots of things but was told they were laughing. You're right - it was definitely not PC but you couldn't help but laugh at it. (Of course, he wrote it before we knew what "PC" stood for; and - not personal computer)

LOL! You could say Mel Brooks was politically incorrect before his time!

I seen the musical on stage in L.A. with not Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick, but Jason Alexander and Martin Short. I thought it was very good, I totally enjoyed it. A very funny show to see live.

I may wait on seeing the movie till it comes out on DVD to rent though. I figure if have to wait to see the originals do it on film, a little longer can wait.

I thought the original movie was just OK -- except for the "Springtime for Hitler" dance number. I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe. I don't think I'd laughed that hard at anything since PDQ Bach.

Haven't seen the remake.

I saw the original Producers film and then the theatrical production and enjoyed both. I will probably watch the newest film version whenever it comes on TV.

Exactly, Twitchly. This film taught me the meaning of the expression "sidesplitting humour!"
