Oh, but what did they LIVE on?

My dad used to tell me that some people were but one slim notch above the animal kingdom... I didn't believe him.
Houston, with its extreme heat and extreme humidity is universally famous for its insects, too. Yankees don't know what insects
are till they move to Houston...

Looks like the tenant could be suffering from OCD, depression, untreated mental illness, or perhaps they left the ap't and squatters were occupying it until the mess was discovered.

UGH!!
This is truly digusting, this apartment. It's unbelievable the way some people will allow themselves to live.
It could be a person with some kind of behaviour disorder, first thought that came to mind...

Yep, that's mental illness at work there.
And, dare I ask--WHAT is that stuff on the floor of the bathroom? (Or don't I want to know?)

I don't want to know either (but I guess my guess is good as your guess is!)... I just had my lunch too before checking this out, DRAT! LOL!!!

I doubt that anyone is still living there. There is no place to move around. YUK! And what IS that in the laundry room next to the black high heel shoe? Looks like a pool of blood. Did I say YUK already!

I have two guesses as to the stuff on the bathroom floor. One is insulation. The other is toilet paper with leaked plumbing water on it.
This is worse than the worst apartment I've seen, which I was invited to look into by the caretaker when the occupant was finally forced out. That one only had a foot of stuff everywhere. Description of such ended up in an article I wrote about my cat, as she'd sniffed at that door frequently, but didn't go in during the aftermath when the door was open. Poor cats in there. Hope they are found alive and get to see and smell something else again.

I'm surprised the place didn't go up in smoke with all the cigarettes and garbage.

The iron really made me laugh. Who lives in a squalid dump like that and worries about ironing their clothes?!

This reminds me of a documentary here in the UK a few years ago. iI was actually very touching and being Polish, I sort of understand where these hoarders are coming from, I have a mild hoarding instinct myself...you know - can't throw a plastic bag away, have to make it into a knot and store it under the sink in the kitchen....can't give clothes to charity, because I may wear it again...blah blah blah...we have a standing joke in the family about becoming 'A Mr Trebus'.
Mr Trebus, life of grime:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/2002/oct/05...rdianobituariesMr Trebus wasn't filthy though....and his desire to keep EVERYTHING is clearly related to his past. He was an old soldier, defending his castle, which towards the end was a rabbit warren of piled up books and newspapers....you sort of wanted to stand up for him, help him fight the eviction notices and protect him.
The person in the apartment above was clearly ill.

This is funny, really bizarre! But seriously, that person is not well, can't cope with life.

perversely, wouldn't we like to know what the person who lived in the apartment looks like?
This is Mr Trebus, from my previous post:

Mr Trebus was the star of that show. All the staff knew and seemed to like and respect him. He was pitiable but not pathetic, if that makes sense.
