That is one of the first traits displayed by sociopaths. I saw a few of those in the years I worked Adolescent Psych. I will never forget one little boy who was so cute, but such a psychopath! He attempted to kill his aunt's beloved parrot and when she caught him, revived the parrott and scolded him, when she left the room he muzzled the parrot, pulled all of it's feathers out and smothered it. This little boy was all of 8 or 9 years old.

Yes, this boy should be watched very closely for developing signs of sociopathic, a-pathetic or cruel behavior, no doubt.
That said, he might actually be a very bright boy who is fascinated by animals and the "food chain" stuff he's seen on TV or what-have-you... a not-impossible scenario, don't you think?
He could be a nascent "bad boy"....... or not. Time will tell.

I bloody hope the child welfare people really look into this case but ......... they are slack here too sadly!
