Hiya,

Is anyone watching the new show called TRUE BLOOD? I was so excited about it because it's from Alan Ball (Six Feet Under).

But....it's really weird...and not in a good way...

Sometimes I like it, sometimes I don't. I'll probably finish the season but there's something I can't quite put my finger on - perhaps it seems contrived? gratuitous?

Hi,

I love this series! Yep it's on the weird side and definitely not mainstream but I think it's fantastic. I love the concept of the vampires mainstreaming into the regular population - especially the deep south where the story takes place.

My husband and I look forward to watching this every Sunday eve.

Keep an open mind and keep watching it. smile.gif)

Dawn

p.s. It's based on the book series Southern Vampire. Here's some info on Sookie Stackhouse (main character) - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sookie_Stackhouse

I enjoy this show, even though it's pretty cheesey.

Dawn, I will share Bill with ya! He can suck on my neck! smile.gif I love this show. It is different, that's for sure, but one gets so sick of the predictable shows on regular channels that are geared to the minds of 9 year olds. Then there are all of the darn commercials.

I like Anna Pacquin and think she does her character justice and I LOVE Tara, her friend. She is cute as hell and quite witty!

I love anything gothic anyway and this show is just starting to develop. I LOVE IT!!

Alan Ball is from the same home town as me, and makes much of his Southern roots. He's old enough (I think) to remember what things were like there before Atlanta-sprawl suburbanized and sanitized everything. I do love the opening sequence -- it's all there, every bit of it, every Southern-gothic cliche there ever was and some new ones.

The other night I asked the DH if he thought the show had any of what they used to call "reedeming social value." The answer (from both of us) was...nah. But so what? We can't seem to stop watching it. Glorious trash, trashy people, drunk-###### rednecks, sicko sex, moldy old houses, sweaty nights, the whole bit; enough to curl the hair of Mrs. Palin and all the PMRC and all the church ladies everywhere and the PTA and, well, just about everybody.

That's what I like about it. Push the envelope. Push some more. And some more. And, when they think you can't push any more, do it some more.
CHARDKAY
Olfacta, this show sure would curl the hair of Ms. Palin! She would be a winkin' and a blinkin', for sure! She might not even be able to complete a sentence after watching it!!!

I started watching all the little clips and such on VOD, which showed previews of the show, long before the series premiered...and I am totally hooked.
I'm picky about my vampire movies and shows...but this one doesn't take itself too seriously and I just find it entertaining.
When it's over I quickly flick the channel to Showtime to catch the new episode of "Dexter".
I hate to admit this, having watched "Dexter" so diligently for two years...but I'd rather miss it than "True Blood"...but I know I can catch it on VOD at a later time. If that weren't the case...I'd have a real problem. LOL

Sunday nights have become a Tivo 3 hour twisted show marathon starting with True Blood at 9, Entourage at 10, Californication at 10:30 and Dexter at 11. I enjoy them all, each for different reasons, all bizarre beyond belief. For a grand finale they could mix all the characters up together in one show, a feature length movie. Hank could explore vampire sex, the boys could make a movie about it, and Dexter can chop them all up in the end.

I hate to admit this, but I actually have 2 Tivo's (yes, I live alone) so that I can tape Dexter, True Blood, Little Britain, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, and of course, MAD MEN!! I gave up on Californication because I got sick of every 3rd word being F*** and all David Duchovney does is have sex! I liked him better as Mulder!

I lurvve David Duchovny - sex addict and all! *wink wink*

Hank Moody has grown on me. I love his relationship with his daughter.

I've been watching it religiously. I thought it was cheesy, too, until the last episode, where you learned how BIll became a vampire, which explains his current identity struggles. I think it's a nice allegory for the race/sex/sexual preference/you name it prejudice in America, right down to the in-your-face Stonewall-type tactics of the more "out" vampires, if you will.

Fascinating. What do you think TrueBlood really tastes like?

OH My God ....... What about Mad Men !!! at 8:00 !!!! I can't afford any more TV addictions (time-wise)

It's true, since movies (by and large) have gone the way of the juvenile, TV drama has become the place for
adult viewers.

I had a real thing going on for Duchovney when he was Molder. I have a thing for men that are well groomed and wear suits!

I love True Blood. I am more anxious for the new episodes, than I am for Dexter. Like Perfumeo, we are watching all four of those shows (well, TiVo'ing them) on Sunday. But we usually watch True Blood, the same night. Dexter, then Entourage, then Californication. I love Anna Paquin and I think the writing is very entertaining. Finally, something with a different twist on the vampire genre. I think something is very amiss with Sookie's boss at the bar...what's up with him and the sheet-sniffing?

Wasn't he remembering or reliving his night with "Tara"? That was my impression anyway - I think he is hot for her but doesn't want to admit it!
Catie Ribbons
Sam Merlotte (don't know if I got the spelling right), Sookie's boss, is the intriguing one...to me.
I think I know his secret.
A tip was when that stray dog came up on his porch and he called him "brother".
And didn't Tara say he "barks" in his sleep?
Sniffing Dawn's sheets?
Hmmm. I don't think he's a dog...but I think he may be a bit of...an animal. LOL
I do believe he has an interesting back story.

Bill doesn't really do anything for me. Ya'll can have him.

Sam is cuter...and yes, I think he's a manimal. wink.gif

My wife and I are hooked on it - sort of a curiosity/revulsion thing going on. Actually, I gotta admit that my favorite part of the show is the opening credits!

Question for those who've read the books - how closely does the teevee show track with the books' plot line? It seems like the books have a *lot* more details about "Supes" (supernatural beings), Vampire Kings, and other weirdness...

Hot damn!!! I'v been wondering about that dog.

I luuuuuurrrrvvvve this show.

However, those accents aren't too good. The only character that actually sounds like he's from northern Louisiana is Rene.
perfumeo
how about that dog?
VelvetSky
Hmm, well I already had the dog thing figured out a few episodes ago so that last scene was kinda anticlimactic for me.

I can't stand the Jason character and his girlfriend whats-her-name (umm, Amy?).
StAndrewsGirl
Sunday seems to go with rituals. True Blood and Dexter set me up for the coming week. Nice to find such good company here!
Catie Ribbons
Yes, I pretty much knew Sam was the dog when he called another dog which looked similar to Dean "brother". LOL
I like Sam. In fact...I think he and Tara are my two favorite characters.
Bill doesn't do a thing for me, really. None of the vamps do.
The ordinary folks are scary enough. LOL
And...Cajun accents are a bit misplaced up in Northern Louisiana. That one dude must be a transplant.
RHM
In the books, Sam is a very rare shape shifter who can assume any shape. He just chooses the assume the shape of a dog because it's "less threatening". However, he does assume other animal shapes (a different breed of dog & a different animal) to help Sookie.

I am enjoying watching the series. It's interesting to see how Alan Ball has changed the original plot lines & characters for television. In some cases I like it & in some I really don't.
Overall, my favorite actor is Sam. Sometimes Anna P. seems to be a bit too "drama student"-ish in the delivery of her lines othertimes she's fine. I think Bill's acting has improved, he was pretty wooden in the beginning & I think Eric still is.

Don't get me started on what they've done to the Jason character. It'll just make me mad.
perfumeo
the dog thing was clearly coming on, but the scene was still a shock for me with the big naked guy showing up on the bottom of the bed.

Girl: AAAAH!
Guy: AAAAH!
All together now: AAAAAH!
Persephone
Anna Paquin isn't a great actress but it works.

I love the character of LaFayette.

Jason and his new hippie dippy girlfriend are annoying me - this is only going to get worse....

What's the black girl's name - Sookie's friend that thinks she has a demon? I love her. I like her bad attitude and wish she wouldn't change. I think she and Sam could make a good couple.

I can't believe there are only 3 more episodes!
VelvetSky
Anna Paquin won an Oscar when she was like 11.

CHARDKAY
Yessirree, that dog at the end of the show was something else. Wonder when Tara will get her devil out of her? Wonder where Bill is off to, and for what reason? Wonder who killed Sookie's grandmother and her cat? This show is exciting as hell isn't it? But you gotta like a lot of blood..........to watch it that is!!

LaFayette is my favorite character, he does the part justice, I love him!!!
I think that Jason's girlfriend is truly evil, just like the trapped vampire said to Jason. She will most likely take him down. Her name is Amy......hot little number isn't she?
Orchidbloom
I love Lafayette. They pronounce his name wrong. Well, I should say, not how we say it in Louisiana. We say, (laugh-e-yet).

When he confronted that guy who wanted a burger without AIDS.... I just about died. It was hilariously insane!!!

CHARDKAY
Okay question for y'all. I always thought that once one was bitten by a vampire, they BECAME a vampire as well. Doesn't that make Sookie a vampire now that her main squeeze Bill has bitten her on the neck? I am so anxious for tonight's episode!!
Catie Ribbons
Ever since Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire" we've seen vampires which only "turn" if they are drained to the point of death...and then drink from the vampire.
I believe that's how it works in the "True Blood" stories, as well.
Used to just be if a person was drained to death (think of Lucy Westenra's character in "Dracula) she/he would become a vampire...unless beheaded or burned or "staked" right after her/his "human death".
It varies from book-to-book...movie-to-movie...series-to-series.
Catie Ribbons
It sure was a good one last night, wasn't it, Char? tongue.gif
CHARDKAY
Yes, good and blooooooooooody! I was surprised at Tara's exorcism, weren't you?

This show is kind of like watching a car crash, you can't help looking at it.
But I do mean that in the best terms.
I do enjoy watching this show; but every time I hear Vampire Bill say "Sookie is mine" or "Sookie" - something I can't help but to giggle.

"SOOKIE IS MIIIIIIIIINNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEE!!"

BRUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! LOL!!!!

This show is getting progressively campy! LOL!!! Not like it wasn't before when it first premiered.
