As you can see from the first link, we used to be called LongLostPerfumeChat. There are still a handful of us around from the early days of 2000-2001, although most of us are using different screen names, now.

Can you tell me why anyone would change their screen name? I have always had the same screen name and can think of no reason to change. Maybe some don't want people to know who they really are? I don't agree with it at all, be who you are whether other's like it or not, no? Subversive? Sneaky? Cowardly? For what reason, enquiring minds want to know..........

When I joined in 2002 I quickly chose the name "volupte" beacause at that time it was the favorite of the very few fragrances I wore and couldn't come up with another name, how that has changed since then

. I never wear Volupte fragrance any more and often wish I had a different user name, maybe something simple like my first name but I don't plan to make any changes after all this time.

Different strokes, m'dear. I changed mine because I was very naive when I first started participating on the internet. I used one name everywhere. After witnessing some unfortunate cyberspace shenanigans, I decided to be more opaque when participating in PUBLIC forums. I told everyone who was active at the time what I was doing. So, not sneaky, not cowardly (unless you consider trying to reduce the likelihood of identity theft and stalking to be cowardly), and not subversive. Since I am quite active in the swap section of this group, there are lots of people here who know my real name and address.
Frankly, I'm not quite sure why you should give a rip about what screen name I use since I don't see how on earth it impacts you.

CHAR, while there can be the occasional person who changes name to deceive, sometimes a name can be chosen in haste and after a while may no longer represent the person. Sometimes trial and error are required to find a name one feels is right. I've always used the same name here.

Notice the difference between post/visit counts on the 2001 page and now... how POL has grown!
Also, some of the links on the second page work (true, some don't, but that's due to the caching system)... and the results are very interesting. Try them!

yup , I went from using my real name (from 2003 on the EZ version of POL to this board) to being MrsV due some niggling privacy issues , which is worse when you have a one in a million first name. I know its cozy here but let us not forget that this is an open board and millions use the interwangle. Anyhoo to remove all doubt I announced my name change loud and clear. I have no issues with anyone wanting a change for whatever reason , I give the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.

Let's see. When POL changed from EZboard to PHP, Mietros changed his name to Armanis. He was one of many, in fact, who took advantage of the opportunity afforded by Jeffrey to change one's moniker. But I assume his reasons were his own, and I wouldn't ascribe them to being subversive, sneaky or cowardly.
Seriously, does this mean that everyone who is still around from the first year with the exception of Sofia is subversive, sneaky or cowardly? Because all the rest of us have changed our names. Sometimes a change is just a change. No point in assuming motives were suspect.

Okay, so I got to look at this since I'm home now. That IS a blast from the past--both of those board formats predate me. I'm pretty sure I joined in 2003. I've always been altodiva here, as well as Basenotes and other sites where I'm not very active, but there are other places on the web (namely, Ebay) where I use another name.
I think everyone understands the need to change the username if the name was poorly chosen to begin with, and many have been quite courteous by publicly letting all know about the change in the manner of Mrs. V. Those people lose their post count (and hence perfumista status and swapping ability) when doing so. Numerous people have left and come back under other names, and, assuming that they have left of their own volition and not been kicked off for violations, as long as Jeffery Dame is fine with it, there should be no question from the rest of us. In fact, we were all able to change our usernames when we registered here at the new board, and there was a thread ages ago where we posted our old and new names so that people would know who we were.

There has been a few times where I wish I had a different name. When you join a forum, you try to think clever and fast(unless you use the same name everwhere) and sometimes you like it later but other times you don't. Even tho I choose mine because of my love of fume and bags(purses). It makes me feel like an old dumpy.... frumpy...welll......fumebag!

Me too, Volupte, I have kept the same screen name forever. Most people that have changed their screen names we know about. I remember when Gloria was Largloworm back in the day, and I remember Armando who is now Rufus Firefly.
There are a few though, as we all know, that have changed their names so they could not be identified, just a bare few.............
I remember we once had a thread, long ago, as to how we arrived at our screen names or why we chose them. Boxwood, for example, named for the fragrance of a boxwood bush, etc. Almost everyone was up front about that.........

I ended up with my name because all of the clever ones I had come up with were already taken, according to the namemeister. (I kept thinking, "Really??? Somebody already has

Well,
I don't know. Don't really care, either. I can take 'em as I find 'em, without ascribing motivations of being cowardly, etc. Don't see how being cowardly would apply anyway.
What I do see is an unfortunate attempt to derail a fun thread about the past into yet another tedious diatribe about trolls and multiples, long on insinuation and short on facts. Where's the fun in that?

As I have mentioned before, when I was a wee little girl, my uncle used to call me CHARDKAY. My name is Charlotte, my middle initial is D, and my sister's middle name was Kay, so he somehow combined that and always called me that. I like purses too, I have a collection of really nice Liz Claiborne and Nine West purses that I have picked up at yard sales and the thrift store.
My husband had a speech impediment as a child and could not say the word "purse". It was missing the "R" sound and the other kids laughed at him. So he switched to "pocketbook".

I was on the old ezboard in about 2004 as lighthouse or lighthouse 1 or 2 because I
think it kept telling me there already was one. When it was switched to the next format I had trouble with the transition for some reason and changed my name to rebecca after the duMaurier novel, but again it would not accept it alone so I added my birth year to it and I wish it was just plain Rebecca because the numbers look really lame to me.
For some reason I had trouble getting into the new group but Mr. Dame answered my email right away and set it up for me!
I won't change my name now and give up my fumista status! LOL
