I heard this on the radio this morning and was a bit stunned. Ususally, stars live and die by their fans--especially, um, those who've already had their day, shall we say.
I wonder what's so pressing that he's done with fan mail. Just fatigue? Retiring from answering fan mail? He is 68 years old, after all. I wonder.

Will you still need me, will you still feed me when I'm 64....
Guess the question was answered for him.

He still has FANS? Who actually send him fan mail??? Really???
Poor Ringo. Reading this, I can't help but get a mental picture of a poor, old, grubby, homeless looking man skulking down the sidewalk, muttering over and over, "I absolutely will not be giving out any autographs today, so bugger off, everyone! No autographs, I say!"

He's still very active - touring and such. I am surprised he didn't stop answering fan mail years and years ago - imagine how much fan mail the boys must have rec'd once upon a time!
I think Ringo enjoys being Ringo and probably doesn't give a hoot what anyone thinks. He seems to be really comfortable in his own skin.

I think so, too. He has always seemed to me to be one of those people who knows how to enjoy life; he makes of it what he wants.

I'm sure Ringo has many fans all over the world.
He seems like a pretty cool guy from what I've seen of him in interviews, etc.

I was surprised to hear that he was answering fan mail and signing various objects. That was very nice of him. I think he tours every year and is still recording. A lot of classic rock groups and musicians who no longer get air play tour nowadays. It pays the bills.
As someone who once answered fan mail for a TV star years ago, I can tell you it is the most boring chore. Nearly every letter sounds exactly the same, even the stupid ones like, "You are my biggest fan."

Weren't 'fans' the people who made him all of his riches by listening to his music and buying his albums and attending his concerts? Now, he has no time for them? Ingrate is what I say.

While reading, please listen to the Dickies' Fan Mail (they really, really need it, they really really read it).

You mean to tell me that in the "hay day" that they stopped to answer all the fan mail? I kinda doubt it. I don't blame him.
Nice that he has fans that bother to sit down and write but............kind of a waste don't you think? He's living on his investments and royalties I would guess. Not that the fans don't matter but........can you imagine how time consuming that is? I figured there were form letters that they sent out with pictures to the fans. That's about it. No biggie.

If at age 68 he wants to spend his time doing other things than answering mail, I say good for him, he's earned it.

I love Ringo...one of the most genuine and down to earth musicians, ever! I don't blame him, he's getting old!

I disagree, people didn't pay for the concerts and albums in order to make him rich, they payed money for the concerts and albums to get pleasure and joy from the fabulous music. "Thank you" is what I say, for all the wonderful songs.

I guess I'll stop sending him 250 postcards a day ... Maybe he doesn't want people wasting all that paper. Don't write to Ringo - save a tree!

OK, there was supposed to be a link ...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKv1xZFWUIIQuick aside, according to his autobiography Take it Like a Man, Boy George used to write back to his fans, and not with utilitarian replies, at a time in the early megafame days when one would not imagine he'd possibly have time. Don't know how long that went on for. I could write him to ask and would surely find out one way or another.
