:-D

Whoever hits the nail on the head (ie, comes up with what this is reminding me of), can choose the decant of their choice from my collection.

Shaal Nur is one of the strangest fragrances I've ever encountered. It's has a multiple personality disorder. When it first goes on it's all vanilla and citrus and delicate florals, and just incredibly edibly yummy. The first half hour or so had me salivating. It made me hungry. Then it went through a sea change and metamorphosed into something entirely different. All the smoke and incense came out. There was a transitory ammonia-like note that made me understand why some people cry "cleaning fluid". But that didn't last (thank goodness). A reviewer on MUA said it smelled like Lapsang Souchong tea. I ran and got a tea bag from my cabinet to compare. Sure enough! Shaal Nur on drydown smells like Lapsong Souchong tea.

..just like beautiful dusty flowers. Shaal nur reminds me of lots of other perfumes too - not duplicates but rather facets of. Arpege, La perla and Voleurs de Roses all have the same vibe somewhere along in their unfolding.

Sigh - I just wished Shaal Nur lasted longer on me. Two hours max for me. Its just not enough.

.........like the altar boy had squeezed some lemons on top of the incense in the "canister" as a joke and the priest has anosmia and can't smell the burning lemon rinds.

Kidding.....it's a weird scent , though. Very unusual.
Think I prefer my incense heavier and denser and sweeter too.
VelvetSky
....the crossroads where sparkling citrus, cool, dry florals and warm, sophisticated spices and incense meet.

(It's the first Etro I ever tried, and I still love it dearly)

OMG! This has me laughing! I meant what other PERFUME does Shaal Nur smell like, but your replies are so creative and wonderful, that I obviously had the wrong question in mind!!

Still haven't figured out what it is, and still welcome more replies!!

I don't think I'v ever smelled this one, but it sounds intriguing. Primavera in an old
post thought it reminded her of L'air du Desert Morocain .... which I've just rec'd and am sampling.
StAndrewsGirl
Scary to say it, but it has a lot in common with...with...oh, oh...Obsession.

Forget I said that.

.......L'Air du Desert Marocain. When I first put on the new Marocain, I was reminded of Shaal Nur.

Well, the winners are....Primavera and Sofiadurango!!

All day long as I wore the Shaal Nur, L'air du Desert Marocain kept floating into my mind. I actually wondered at times if I had somehow spilled some LdDM on something I was wearing! But I kept telling myself I was crazy, as there's a certain dryness to L'air ddM that I wasn't getting from Shaal Nur, AND because with all the talk of LdDM lately, I would have thought someone else would have made this comparison. I guess I didn't see that Primavera DID! I really thought I was losing my mind!!

So thank you all for your thoughts, input, guesses.

I guess Jills tend to think alike....?

Sofiadurango and Primavera, PM me with requests for a decant of your choice!!
VelvetSky
Well darn, if I had known from the start you meant what other perfume it smells like....!!!! :)

Congrats Sofi and Prima. That was fun, Ruby. I'll have to break out the Shaal Nur tomorrow.
cazaubon
Darn, missed the deadline! I think Shaal Nur smells like L'Air du Desert Marocain and lemon Pledge.
primavera
Well my goodness...great Jills think alike. It's quite gratifying when someone confirms a feeling you have about a perfume.

They're certainly not the same by any means, but there is definitely something shared by the two fragrances...a dry, woody, citrus vibe that they both share. L'Air du Marocain, however, is a deeper, fuller fragrance with superior staying power, IMO.

As to my prize, Rockinruby...it's me that owes you. I'm still enjoying a little sniff every now and again of the Scandal that you were so kind to send me.

Sofia, I didn't see the bit about my remark on the other thread, in your post, until later. :)
