I love rich scents like Tolu and Shalimar in their extrait forms. However, I live in a hot, humid climate and summer will be here soon. The only perfume I love that really works in a hot, humid climate is Ormonde, but I want more options. I've tried Shalimar in its lighter concentrations, and I don't like them. Any recommendations for a girl like me?

Anne Pliska works all year round. :O)
Try looking at a lighter florals with an amber base like the new Escada.

Personally, I love orientals, all year round, LOL!! Perhaps lighter applied, in the heat -
Off the top of my head - why not a Pink Sugar - or one of the floral Angels, like lily, peony, violet, rose -
A scent with citrus, and oriental notes, such as Brit Red? Maybe even, CK Euphoria? Prada is pretty smooth, this could be worn year-round.
You could even creatively layer, an oriental, with a lighter vanilla, or soliflore scent.

Discover chypres. Especially green ones. They make summer worth living for me.

Cabotine was meant to be the oriental lovers summer rescue. It works that way for me.
Another option is Ma Griffe. It's a chypre, but loved by many oriental lovers too.

Also Narciso Rodriguez is great in summer, i find. Although it is not an oriental. More of a floral-musk.
L'instant is a floral-oriental. Don't expect the amber to be too strong. It's more vanillic, to my nose.
Kenzo Flower and Flowetr Oriental i also find well fitting for warm waeather, mayber more in spring than in summer.
What about Coco Mademoiselle?
Have you ever tried Shiseido white Zen? Woody-oriental but not too heavy and cloying. A good summer scent, i find.

I have the same problem ( and I am an Opium fanatic ) , but I do wear scents from almost any category so I have some alternatives.
My recs :
Opium Fleur de Shangai (summer version of 2005)
SL Vetiver Oriental
Boucheron femme original in the edt (lightly) - floriental one
Chanel Allure /Allure sensuelle
Cabotine is a slightly orientalised lily/tuberose , very good
Sheer Obsession ( one of the few light versions of originals that is better than the original)
SL Douce Amere
Passage d'enfer (light incense and wood)
Vol de Nuit ( surely it can be worn year-round)
Rykiel Woman -not for men! ( my latest love : a mix of leather , flowers , musk and vanilla)

Helmut Lang is also a possibility. It's an oriental/skin scent - very good in the summer.

Hermes Eau des Merveilles, Rochas Absolu, Armani Sensi, Balenciaga Eau de Cristobal, Chantecaille Frangipani, Dior Dune, Fresh Lemon Sugar, Guerlain Chamade, Kenzo Summer, Oscar de la Renta Oscar, Rochas Poupee, YSL Cinema edt, YSL Opium Fleur de Shanghai (another vote), Chanel Allure (another vote), Ungaro Ungaro, MPG Or des Indes, Rochas Byzance, Rochas Lumiere.
And I have worn Vol de Nuit and L'Instant with great pleasure in hot weather.
Dorthea's suggestion of Ma Griffe is a good one, though it isn't technically an Oriental, but rather a soft green chypre - it is perfectly suited to summer weather.

is Initial an oriental? I am wearing it today and it's light enough for summer, the vanilla isn't too cloying.
You could always wear Shalimar Lite in the summer.

I wear lots of things with the ooomph of an oriental, year-round... you could always just keep wearing your favorite orientals, toned down - mixed with unscented lotion, applied more sparingly. Other ideas:
Addict
Jasmin de Nuit
AG Songes
Gres Cabaret
Stella
L'Artisan Vanilia
Fracas
Fantasia de Fleurs
Irisia
Les Nuits d'Hadrien
Amazone
Caleche Eau Delicate (and the other Delicates from Hermes)
Chanel No. 22
A mix of I Profumi di Firenzi's vanilla and lemon scents (could give you that Shalimar hit)
Ivoire
YSL Y
La Rose Angel (smells like a soft, fruity Angel)
Must
Tea for Two

Since I mostly wear Orientals, I wear a lot during the Summer...and I live in sultry Louisiana.
Some do better than others...and I've kind of learned which ones to avoid on the steamiest of days.
I love to wear Black Cashmere in the heat, as I find it a very 'cool' scent.
Also...Opium Eau d'Ete is perfect for warmer months. I can't wear regular Opium, as it makes me quite ill these days...so I was delighted to be introduced to the lighter version.
I also wear L'Instant a lot. I've read this one described as "heavy", but on me it's light and refreshing and perfect in the heat.
Same with Trouble.
About the only Orientals I avoid, period, during warmer months...is Cinnabar and any that are really heavy in spices or warm woods.
Pink Sugar positively blooms when the weather heats up. Might want to give that a try, too.
I think the key to wearing them...is remembering that in the warmer days of the year, scents tend to 'project' more...and that you kind of have to watch how much you apply.
