Trolling the flea market today, and bought what seemed like a genuine bottle of Fracas, but I'm having my doubts. Here are the facts:
It was in the wrapped black box. It's a square, black bottle with a genuine-seeming label and the "backwards R" P cap.
It does, in fact, smell like Fracas--but Fracas is not a scent I know intimately, and I could be fooled by a good dupe.
Here's what really has me wondering--it's a 50ml EDT. Now, if you go online, there is no sign of a Fracas EDT. It's all EDP, EXCEPT, a couple of sites have a 50ml EDT in a different bottle for, like, $150--clearly something rare. Clearly not what I have.
I paid $20 for this, and frankly, I'm not all that upset if it is fake. It has dried down to a perfectly nice Fracas-like scent, so I'll wear it anyway.
But I would very much like to know one way or the other. Can any Fracas lovers help me figure this out?

Oh, and I just wanted to add, that the lady who sold me this, along with some others, is not someone running a big cut-rate perfume operation. She's a pretty low volume seller who picks up stuff at estate sales and the like. She only had the one bottle of Fracas. I'm sure she wouldn't have had any idea whether it was fake, so I'm not interested in trying to take it up with her.

It could very well be a vintage bottle. Fracas edt used to come in a short squarish black 50ml bottle and a taller rectangular black 100ml bottle. I believe it had pink lettering (?)

That's reassuring! My bottle is the short square one. The lettering is gray, but there's a pink border on the label, and the interior of the box is pink.
I've had the juice on for a couple of hours now, and it hasn't gone south in any way. Smells just great. So maybe I did get a bargain after all.
Thanks!
BTW, I wonder why they quit making the edt?

I also think that it could be vintage. I have checked a few likely UK based sellers and they only have the edp listed too.

Bittersweet, What is the distributor's name on the back of your box? Fracas has been owned by two different companies in the past 15 years. One company was The Fragrance Foundation, and the other company was a short funny name like Alpa.

Chanel22, your detective work led me to dig in my closet and take out my old bottle of Fracas edt. It is also the 50ml size, black box with pink and grey design and pink lettering and pink inside the box. The bottle itself is a splash bottle, square, clear glass, with a tall black faceted top. Here's a pic:

This bottle probably goes back at least twenty years and the company was still "Parfums Robert Piguet," but it says on the box "Made in France for Orinter Geneva Switzerland." It sounds like Fracas has changed hands a few times. I know for a while it was made in USA but the last time I saw it downtown it's now made in France again. Let's hope it has now found a good home!
By the way, there is a little bit left in the bottom of the bottle here and believe it or not, it's still good!

Hmmn...interesting. My box and bottle do not look like FOB's. My bottle is square but black and opaque, like the current edp bottle, and the box is also much like the current box. On the back of the box, it says, "Parfums ROBERT PIGUET, Made in France For Orinter Geneva Switzerland."
So, who knows? Judging by the juice, I am now pretty convinced it's real--but I'd still like to hear from anybody who has an identical item.

BG, judging by the info chanel22 found, the name Orinter on your bottle and mine would make them both older than 15 years.
