He directed our Bette in 'Mr Skeffington" and in the release of the dvd , the clarity of his memories and
observations shames many a director half his age.

Interesting, sillage . . . that depiction of Bette Davis, is amusing, to be sure. Joan Crawford wanted very much, to 'bed' director Robert Aldrich, during 'Baby Jane;' he refused her advances. Mr. A. did not want Bette to be able to throw that up to him, during the movie's production. What I found fascinating, is that so far as we KNOW, Vivien Leigh did not have to come across sexually, either to David Selznick, or to his brother Myron, in order to play Scarlett, in GWTW . . .

An actor who worked for our firm as a temp once told me that the camera loves madness...it comes off very well in the eyes. Could explain a lot of VL's appeal, poor dear.

Well, both Bette and VL, had major troubles, with depression . . . to say nothing, of Miss Crawford. I love a look of madness, myself . . . my cat Cassie Anne, ALWAYS looked crazy . . . to me, this made her more beautiful.
