With all the concerns about identity theft and the grandiose promises from the credit card companies, I wanted to share with you my recent experience with my Chase Visa.

Over the weekend I ordered some jewelry from the website of a jeweler I've used before. After I got my order confirmation I noticed that I had had my fingers on the wrong row of keys when I typed my last name. OOOPS. I emailed the vendor telling them of my blunder since I expected that the credit card company would reject the charge. (the name is gibberish) No such luck. My order and credit card receipt arrived today addressed to the last name typed on the wrong keyboard row. That gives me such a warm and secure feeling!!

Speaking of OOOOPS, this should be in Talk About Life. Would a mod please move this. Tx

I hear your exasperation Colonia! I've had actual identity theft with a past Visa(Citibank) and a past Mastercard(AT&T). Both cards were maxed out within a few days, with outrageous orders of electronics and musical components and the orders were placed and delivered on the opposite side of the U.S. It wasn't until both cards were maxed out that the companies realized something was wrong. And, then, I had to convince them I didn't order such items! Never mind that I was a customer who would pay off my whole bill monthly and had a purchasing history that clearly wasn't in line with the purchases of the identiy thiefs.

Now, I own only one major credit card - Discover (great 5% cashback bonus with the card too). And, they have a very good security department that calls me when there are purchases that seem unusual to them. I've heard from them 3 times in the past 5 months, which is something I never heard from with Visa and Mastercard. I'd rather have them call me and verify with me, just to be safe, rather than sorry.

I won't ever get a Chase credit card because of my experience with a rude sales guy. He called me at my work number. He started his pitch, when I told him I was at work at the moment and I needed to cut it short, he said he understood and would call back. He than called back shortly after. He started in again and I told him it wasn't a good time as I was working (after he'd already been talking for a bit) he actually got pissy. He said, "I won't take too much of your precious time." Excuse me!? He was determined to force me to signup right then and there. He finally asked if there was a better time to call, and I told him yes, in the evening, at home. He then called me back the next day at work! (I know if was the same guy, as he had a thick middle-eastern accent.) I again told him I was at work, and he kept talking. This time I just hung up when he was in the middle of a sentence. If he was going to be such an @ss, I didn't feel bad about being a jerk myself.

On the other hand, the support services for my Macy's/Visa card are awesome. I went on a mini-spree at MOA several months ago and spent around $500, give or take in one evening - and I had bought electronics, a few CDs, several bottles of perfume at Marshall’s - and you know, who spends that much on perfume in one trip - surely someone was having a field day with my credit! lol The next day there was a message for me to call to confirm charges on my card. I was almost embarrassed to tell them, that yes, that was me spending up a storm - but I was so grateful that they cared.
